About This Event

In accordance with the wishes of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Gomde California will hold a very special retreat this summer on our primary Guru Rinpoche practice, the Trinley Nyingpo. Our esteemed resident teacher and senior monk at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling, Lama Tsultrim Sangpo, will lead this 35-day retreat.

Last year’s seminar with Lama Tsultrim Sangpo took us into the intricacies of deity practice through this special sadhana from the Tukdrub Barche Kunsel, The Heart Practice that Dispels all Obstacles. We had the opportunity to refine our understanding of Vajrayana through Lama Tsultrim’s clarifying instructions on visualization, mantra recitation, and ritual practice. Now we invite everyone to put their learning into practice and attend Gomde California’s first annual 35-day retreat program.

The blessings and power of carrying out a Trinley Nyingpo retreat cannot be stated. This is an opportunity for the Gomde California sangha to engage in authentic, committed practice with an extraordinary and accomplished retreat master.

The Tukdrub Barchey Kunsel Guru empowerment is required to attend this retreat. The empowerment is being offered by Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche during his Lamrim Yeshe Nyingpo program and by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche during his Annual Seminar.  we ask that all participants stay through the entire length of the program. Bringing together all of the conditions to offer a retreat like this involves significant costs; however, because we feel that this retreat will benefit the attendees and our community in wonderful ways, Gomde California is offering the program at a significantly reduced rate.

May this precious opportunity swiftly give rise to the clarity and compassion of the Buddha’s realization.

Dates will soon be provided, and registration will open end of March.

“There are incredible dharma blessings in every particle of Gomde … Such a spot is very, very rare to encounter in the world. The environment itself brings a great deal of peace and blessings to meditators here.” – Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche

Venue Highlights

Gomde is located just off Highway 101 on the outskirts of the small town of Leggett, three and a half hours drive north of San Francisco. The beautiful Eel River winds through 250 acres of woodlands, meadows and bluffs, forming several very welcome swimming holes along its course. Peaceful walking trails meander through forests of fir, madrone, redwood and oak, opening onto stunning vistas of rugged beauty.

We offer Summer seminars with Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche, Phakchok Rinpoche and other beloved teachers. Gomde is also home to the Dharmachakara Translation Center, accredited through the Kathmandu University. DTC offers translator training and residencies.

During the summer, most of our guests stay in our beautiful campground. We offer quiet tent spaces and furnished tent cabins with easy access to our fully appointed bath house. We also offer limited accommodation in our River House, Gate House, Tara Cottage, and Retreat Hut, as well as dormitory style lodging in our Sangha House during the Winter months.

      My best practice retreat ever

Many factors contributed to this great experience. The teacher, Lama Tenzin, and the practice were the core of it, of course. The other 19 participants bringing their open-heartedness and diligence was also inspiring. Meeting new friends who are on the same path is always so joyful. The food was amazing! Annie, the cook, really outdid herself. The staff made sure everyone was comfortable despite a public safety power shutdown the last 12 hours. I personally love parking my vehicle and walking everywhere. The land is so blessed and beautiful and the weather was delightful. I hope to return again and again.

      Jets in KHandel Rinpoche retreat

Check in was well organized, staff were kind and helpful, food amazing, air conditioning in Buddha hall worked well, schedule was clear, campground and bath house were beautiful. Rinpoche was treated with great reverence and the sangha behaved harmoniously. Lovely!

Everything about the recent retreat-teaching I attended was excellent. First - the teachings by Jetsun Khondro Rinpoche were masterful. Was a blessing to be in the presence of an actual modern day female Dzogchen adept! The food was very good, another blessing b/c there's nowhere for miles around to eat. Staff were very cordial and upbeat. Next time I go I will try to reserve early so I can stay at the retreat rather than off site. That was a bit difficult and I missed a couple of important aspects of the on site experience (making connections, morning/eve meditations, breakfast, orientation, etc. )

      Khandro Rinpoche Retreat

This retreat was great. The retreat land is beautiful, the grounds are well tended, the food was excellent, but most importantly the teachings from Khandro Rinpoche were the best available, beyond comparison. The people attending seemed quite friendly, and swimming in the river was a treat unto itself. Thank you to Gomde CA!!

Perfect place to fall further in love with practice

I attended a weekend retreat with Khandro Rinpoche. Her teachings were priceless, the Gomde staff warm and skillful, the sangha welcoming and the food great. Yeshe Gomde is the perfect place to fall further in love with Buddhist practice.

I just finished a retreat at Gombe California and feel the most rested I’ve been in a LONG time. I ran into a friend on my drive to the airport and she was desperate to ask me where I had been, seeing how restored and light I felt. The grounds are stunning and I slept the best I’ve slept in years. The teachings have inspired me to develop a daily practice and I can’t wait to begin!

Wonderful retreat at this Dharma center-

It is great to bear witness to Gomde California's continuing development and improvements. I stayed in one of the single tent cabins tucked into the wooded campground, which was simple but comfortable, with a bed, a chair and a dresser. The mattress and pillow were comfortable and I slept well. The new shower house was a great improvement over the previous wood shower stalls. A real upgrade in the facilities ! The food was great too and I appreciated that the vegetables were to a significant extent local and organic. The teachings by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche were both profound and direct. A much welcomed deep drink of the path of the Dharma. The celebration this year of 21 years of incremental improvement and ever better land management bodes well for the future installation of dormitory accommodations being planned and the ever better ability to host those who would not be able to attend otherwise. I look forward to continuing my annual visits over the years ahead. Keep up the wonderful programs ! Many thanks !

A great place for inner journies!

My experience as a whole with the retreat was extremely powerful and transformative! Rangjung Yeshe Gomde is a very peaceful and protected place to learn and grow. The land is forested and has many spots to pitch a tent. The bathrooms and showers were very clean, the food was very delicious, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I plan on returning as much as I possibly can!! May you too find a place to nurture and facilitate your journey along the path like Rangjung Yeshe Gomde!

      Wonderful place, wonderful teachers

I had a beautiful weekend retreat here last weekend. If you are looking for an authentic meditation retreat, with authentic Tibetan teachers and masters, then this is the place! It is such a good fortune to have this beautiful sanctuary in the middle of the beautiful forrest, with a river nearby....just beautiful.

      Idyllic retreat center

I've enjoyed the great fortune of retreating at Gomde for the past 18 years. Its deep-in-the-woods location means pristine air and profound quiet. The facilities are all comfortable and the staff is genuinely caring. I aspire to return annually for another 18 years...and I'm now 75.

      Wonderful place with authentic teachers

Beautiful place, right in the middle of nature and with the most amazing teachers. Real Tibetan lamas teach here, so I would totally recommend it for beginners and advanced meditators as well. It is the perfect retreat center! It is in the forrest and yet, has nice accommodation in set up tents with furniture (beds, mattress, carpets) inside the tents, wonderful and comfortable showers and toilets, so you have the retreat experience in a confortable place. Easy to reach by car.

      Great experience!

I have been coming to RYG for 15 years. This past weekend was a wonderful experience. Every time I come, I see upgrades and improvements. And things seem to be running more and more smoothly, at least from my perspective. The tents were clean and ready to go; the food was very good, as usual, and on time (of course, we were often late)..; the check in was smooth and very welcoming; and, of course, the program with Dzigar Kontrul Rinpoche was very helpful. The shrine room was cool and and feast was incredible, both on Friday and Saturday nights. Thank you so much for making everything flow, and manifesting kind hearts and clear minds. I'll be back again! (And, also, I left a purple shirt in the dining room at noon. I wrote an email about it to you)...Love to all. Robin.

      Soto Zen Teaching at Gomde

The Gomde California Center is in a beautiful location and has caring and conscientious staff members and volunteers. What an amazing experience. It is nestled in the forest, fields, and hills of Northern California with the crystal clear Eel River winding through the property. The Soto Zen Practice session with Ekai Korematsu Osho Roshi was an excellent experience and well-facilitated. There were clean and comfortable furnished canvas tents pre-arranged by the staff. Food cooked on the property was delicious, and hot tea always available. Although my stay was short I felt welcomed in the beginning and refreshed as I left. I would highly recommend attending an event or weekend retreat at the Gomde California Center.

      A home away from home

I felt welcomed and well taken care of, in this oasis of a place. The staff, teachers, and fellow students were all engaged in clearly living out the teachings and practices.

Wonderful Retreat, Loving Sangha, Beautiful Land

The Opening to Awakened Awareness retreat with Lama John Makransky was a transformational experience. The teachings were profoundly accessible and helped me connect, through direct experience, to teachings on love and compassion. Rangjung Yeshe Gomde is a beautiful location for retreat, and I am always greeted with such warmth by the sangha.

Thank you!

We're glad you've joined our retreat community. See you around :)

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

My inspiration is to find some very much needed solace away from the stress of raising 4 children, working (as a dietitian) and trying to get my private nutrition counseling practice launched. I am a registered yoga instructor and have practiced for over 10 yrs, and have always dreamed of taking a yoga retreat just for my own inner well being. Linda

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
