About This Event

Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche will once again grace Gomde California with his loving presence this summer of 2019.

In this very special visit, we will honor Rangjung Yeshe Gomde California’s 21st Anniversary with an Ocean of Amrita puja, five days of teaching and practice, and a celebration of our dharma teachers, our precious land, and our history. We will also share our plans for a flourishing future campus, temple, and retreat facilities.

Check-in will open on Saturday, June 29th, at 3pm. Lama Tsultrim will offer an evening teaching on the practice of the Ngakso puja following dinner.  Sunday is our annual Ngakso puja (Ocean of Amrita) for the repairing of broken commitments lead by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche.  There is an option provided for people to register for the puja only.

During the seminar, Rinpoche will also offer the required empowerment for the upcoming 35-Day Trinley Nyingpo Retreat with Lama Tsultrim Sangpo.

The main teaching portion of the program will run from the evening of July 1st through mid-day July 5th. Rinpoche has stated that he will teach on a topic of his choice and that he will determine if any empowerments will be offered.

We expect off-site accommodations to be challenging on June 29th and 30th due to a local music festival. If you wish to stay off-site, we encourage you to check with local hotels that suit your needs well in advance.  Further local accommodations should open up by July 1st.

We are aware that this event falls on the week of the Fourth of July. We hope that this coincidence gives sangha members who otherwise would not be able to take a week off of work a further opportunity to attend the teachings.

We look forward to warmly welcoming our sangha members, near and far, to our splendid retreat land.

Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche sends his love and blessings.

“There are incredible dharma blessings in every particle of Gomde … Such a spot is very, very rare to encounter in the world. The environment itself brings a great deal of peace and blessings to meditators here.” – Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche

Venue Highlights

Gomde is located just off Highway 101 on the outskirts of the small town of Leggett, three and a half hours drive north of San Francisco. The beautiful Eel River winds through 250 acres of woodlands, meadows and bluffs, forming several very welcome swimming holes along its course. Peaceful walking trails meander through forests of fir, madrone, redwood and oak, opening onto stunning vistas of rugged beauty.

We offer Summer seminars with Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche, Phakchok Rinpoche and other beloved teachers. Gomde is also home to the Dharmachakara Translation Center, accredited through the Kathmandu University. DTC offers translator training and residencies.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

I go on retreat to remember who I really am. And I remember that I am alive, Deryk

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
