About This Event
A Water Baby is a being that died before or not long after birth; a being not quite landed
on the earth who was unable fully to develop in the human realm.
The Ceremony for Water Babies originated in Buddhist Japan after World War II when
numerous pregnancies were terminated by abortion. It is a compassion practice
acknowledging the Water Baby and the Parents. The Ceremony includes meditation,
tonglen, the Heart Sutra, making a jizo out of stones, expressing thoughts, and
Any woman or man who has sustained the loss of a Water Baby through miscarriage,
abortion, stillbirth, or infant death is invited to attend. Suggested donation is between $25-40.
Registration is required. Please register online including an email address so as to
receive simple guidelines in advance.
Cookies and tea will follow the conclusion of the Ceremony.
