About This Event
Navratri means the nine nights. In these auspicious nine nights you turn inwards. It is a time for meditation, dissolving into the oneness of consciousness, and then coming out with creativity and fullness. Chaitra means the beginning of a New Year, per the ancient lunar calendar. So, the New Year begins with nine days of turning inwards; prayer, meditation, chanting, offerings, wisdom. Recognizing the Divinity in the whole creation, and enlivening that aspect within ourselves.
At the International Art of Living Center, we are delighted to share these 9 days of celebrations with you. There will be daily satsangs (chanting) and special readings from the ancient Devi Bhagwatam scripture. We will be sharing stories that are written in symbolic form and contain secrets of consciousness and living life skillfully.
The celebrations will culminate in the grand Durga Homa (yagya) on the 8th day – April 12th, 6pm. This is the highlight of the celebrations and involve a special ancient ceremony including Vedic chants and mantras, offering of special herbs and ingredients in the fire. The Durga Homa will be performed by experts who are skilled in the subtle interaction of the 5 elements. Its a time for soaking in the powerful vibrations of the chants and experiencing both the subtle and the gross aspects of creation. It is an honor and a blessing to partake in this special Durga Homa.
On the 9th day (Ram Navami), April 13th, there will be a special Ram Meditation and readings from the Ramayan, an ancient scripture containing deep and timeless wisdom of life and creation.
