About This Event

Learn how to safely adapt Yoga poses for above-knee, below-knee, and upper-extremity amputees by applying the Yoga for Amputees® protocol. You will study types of amputation, types of prosthetics, specific health conditions (including phantom pain and referred pain), and resources that support amputees. Finally, you will understand the basic physical, psychological, and emotional effects of amputation and how to address those effects with Yoga.

Yoga for Amputees® is committed to helping amputees remember and reclaim their wholeness after limb loss through the healing power of Yoga. The theme of wholeness runs through the entire program, with somatic exercises, visualizations, sharing time, practice sessions embodying limb loss, and language skill exercises to help you best address amputee clients.

You will:

Learn to safely adapt core Yoga poses to all levels of amputation

Discover pain management tools for phantom pain and referred pain

Learn appropriate, supportive language to address amputees

Receive extensive materials, including links to videos for further learning

I went into the training to deepen my skills for working with veterans returning from overseas conflicts with limb loss. However, I learned so much more. — Karensa Heidmiller

There was a great response to Marsha’s session. The participants were all very pleased with the session and with themselves, for being able to do the Yoga. The level she chose was a perfect introduction to make everyone comfortable with it. All expressed a realization that Yoga will be valuable to their lives and want to continue to practice. — Innovative Prosthetics
