About This Event

Join us in the heart of Portugal for this light hearted, fun yoga retreat. A stunning and secluded valley, with a beautiful river, waterfalls and natural plunge pools flowing through. Twice daily yoga, six nights accommodation, tasty whole food meals prepared daily, swimming in natural pool, en-suite twin share or single occupancy available.

ACCOMMODATION

Quinta da Flores - a small retreat venue on the outskirts of Figuiero dos Vinhos features five bedrooms over three cottages. It also has an outdoor natural salt swimming pool, river running through the land, many secluded seating and relaxation areas, a shaded outdoor yoga platform, fire pit, lily pond and hammocks around the property.

Every room is en-suite and can be twin share or single occupancy. Maximum group size is ten.

The Top House features two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with a small kitchen and living area and private patio, leading onto the garden and down to the middle house.

The Middle House features a double room, with shared bathroom. Communal dining area and kitchen facilities, lounge area and outdoor dining veranda. Leading onto gardens and pool area.

The Courtyard Annex - two en-suite rooms, either twin share or single occupancy available. Leading down to Middle house, gardens and pool area.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS

Upon inquiry we send out a detailed welcome pack ((contact info blocked)), which gives people all the details they need for getting here, making travel plans, bus times and a link to the bus website.

Guests will need to connect with a bus from either Lisbon or Porto on the Sunday afternoon. We will arrange transfer to retreat site from Figuiero dos Vinhos bus station at 7.15 on Sunday the 1st. We will return guests on Saturday morning for the buses to Lisbon and Porto. Transfer from the local bu station to the retreat is included in the price.

Buses from Lisbon and Porto are approx 12 -16 EUR one way. We do recommend you book your ticket online a week or two before arrival.

SCHEDULE

Daily schedule:

Fruit, cereals, teas and coffee available for guests early morning if desired.

8.30 - 10am : Morning yoga on the large round outdoor platform, surrounded by the sounds of the river running past. Yoga will be a dynamic class including alignment based asana, vinyasa and pranayama.

10.30am : Hearty brunch including grain porridge, chia porridge, toast, fruit platter, cheeses or eggs, (omelette or boiled eggs,) yogurt, home made jams and marmalade, and other treats.

12 - 3pm : Time for swimming, resting, relaxing, walking, massage or other optional extras

3pm : Afternoon snack - smoothies, sweet breads, energy and protein balls

5- 6.30pm : Afternoon yoga - Restorative yoga, yoga nidra, meditation

7pm - Evening meals, including vegetarian or vegan lasagna, moussakka, spicy aubergine with cous-cous, Keralan curry, Thai curry. Friday night included wine with the evening meal, and an evening around the fire pit.

A retreat location that has not been hosting guests for the past three years or so while the ownership changed hands.

Nourish in Nature Retreats will be breathing retreat life back into this stunning location. Menu/Cuisine

Good nutrition is vital to support health and hormone balance. We need to focus on a diet rich in good fats, protective anti-oxidants, high quality protein and vitamins and minerals. Our often hectic stressful lifestyles mean we must learn to support the functioning of our nervous system with foods rich in B vitamins and magnesium. A healthy gut flora balance is being recognized as a crucial part of our health, immunity and hormone balance and naturally fermented foods are a rich source of these beneficial bacteria.

The Food

‘I’m not sure I’ve ever eaten so healthfully and deliciously for five days.

On Sunday, we arrived on the last train from Lisbon, were picked up from the station, and traveled through the solid countryside darkness down a gravel road to the retreat. Even though it was almost 11 pm, we found a full spread of hot squash soup; dense and moist vegan bread, crisp kale salad with sprouted lentils, ad vegetable crudités and dip, all followed by fresh cherries for dessert.

This would be a theme of the retreat. The chef, Gabi, prepared meals with an overwhelming variety of nutrient-dense and delicious vegetarian (vegan optional) food, served hot and family style.’ Alden Wicker Ecocult

A key part of integrated health and any holistic living program or lifestyle, is good nutritious food. Integrated health includes all aspects of health, well being and self care.

We do recommend a well balanced diet rich with vegetables and fruit, very low on processed carbohydrates, and refined sugar. We also feel that a more pesticide free, plant based diet is healthier for both body and spirit.

We don't advocate any extreme diets or extreme exclusion of certain foods as this is a very personal thing. We do educate and cultivate healthy relationships to food and to develop awareness of eating mindfully.

Directions

Location & Getting Here

Fly into either Lisbon or Porto and connect with a national bus to our nearest station, Figueiro dos Vinhos. Both Lisbon and Porto are beautiful cities and guests often extend their holiday by a day or two to spend some time in the city. Please note that it does take a day to get here, including flight time, airport time and catching the bus here. The bus usually takes 3 hours. Please allow at least an hour to either take a bus or taxi from the airport to the national bus terminal.

Check in is any time after 5pm on the Sunday of each retreat week.

If you plan to fly into Portugal on the same day as the start of the retreat, you will need a morning flight to connect with the afternoon buses. Here is the website for the buses – (contact info blocked) Tickets can be purchased online or easily at the bus station.

The bus leaves Lisbon - Sete Rios Station at 4pm and arrives in Figueiro Dos Vinhos (Just called Figueiro Vinhos on web site) for round 12 EUR. We recommend you buy your bus ticket a couple of weeks before travel.

The bus leaves Porto - Rede Expressos Terminal, near Sao Bento at 5pm, and also arrives at Figuiero Vinhas at 7.15pm. Please refer to the bus web site for more information.

We will meet and collect guests from the bus station and bring them to Quinta da Flores. Transfers to and from the bus station are included in the retreat package.

Leaving on Saturday morning.

The return bus to Lisbon on Saturday morning either 8.25 am arriving in Lisbon at 11.15am, or a later bus at 9.15am, arriving in Lisbon at 12.45, or 9.15 am (change at Coimbra) buses to both Lisbon and Porto.

These early morning buses allow plenty of time to connect with flights at the end of the day. Transfer to and from the bus station is included in the retreat package. Remember to allow yourself time to transfer from the bus station to the airport.
