Module 3: Death (100 Hours)

“Of all things in life, what is the most amazing? That a man, seeing others die all around him, never thinks that he will die.” ~Mahabharata

This module is a deep dive into the Yoga of Death — offering an honest, meditative and heartfelt exploration of death through the lens of Yoga. Be prepared to examine your belief systems and cultural conditioning.

Meditation is practicing death a little bit every day. In meditation we learn to take greater care of ourselves because we know our life is precious and fragile at the same time. According to the Indian sacred scriptures, being born in a human form is one of the greatest karmic boons, as it allows us to make life a ground for spiritual attainment. In what way are we allowing the experience of life to happen and in what way are we blocking it out? Where does the fear of letting go come from? What are we holding onto? These are some of the key questions that great beings have contemplated in their attempt to know the mystery of life and death. We will use the tools of meditation and inner contemplation to access deeper layers of ourselves and process some of the issues that defile our relationship with death. In meditation we learn to observe our mental patterning but also establish an intimate relationship with our Inner Heart, the Subtle Presence that makes us feel held and cherished from within.

Dive into the teachings of death and how it relates to Yoga and Classical Tantra. Experience deep relaxation and powerful insight into life with Tantric yoga practices. These practices move energy by working with chakras, pranayama, asana, mudra, bandha, deep relaxation and meditations including Yoga Nidra, sound meditations, moving meditations and visualizations.Discover how two great truths are crucial in the process of living and dying: contemplating our divine nature and our own death.Learn how establishing a relationship with your inner being can slowly eradicate the fear of death.Explore the three mālās, the great illusions about ourselves. Such as the illusion of not being worthy – the illusion of feeling separate – the illusion of acting as the doer.Explore the three stages of karma and how to work with karmic patterns.Examine your Saṁskāras – latent predispositions, internal grooves and imprints that influence the way we think, move, act, breathe and eventually die.Discover the four levels of detachment – learning to let go of the illusions of our life, also at the time of death.Discover the benefits, brain science and spirituality of Savasana (Corpse Pose).Learn to guide talking circles for men and women on the subject of death.Dive deep into the language of yoga; tone, clarity, direct vs. passive, personalizing themes and using your own life experiences as intelligent inspirationExperience morning and evening Traditional Yoga classes themed and rich with practices for deathincluding asana, pranayama (breath awareness), mudra (energy circuitry), bhakti (devotion), sangha (community), satsang (being with the truth) and bandha (unlocking power). You will be able to apply these principles to any style or level of Yoga you wish to practice or teach, to make all Yoga individualized, effective, enjoyable, and safe. All bodies and backgrounds are welcome.Learn how to prepare and sequence classes and workshops that are themed on  death while creating an environment that is welcoming and safe. One on one group practice and teaching including professional as well as peer feedback.
