Casperia, Italy is totally pedestrianised, with fewer than 350 inhabitants, and is one of the last villages of Italy untouched by mass tourism.
All of the houses in which Sunflower Retreats' guests stay are within a couple of minutes walk from each other and from our yoga studios, breakfast lounge and treatment rooms. Your walk will take you through the winding cobbled streets of castle-like medieval centre of Casperia.
The medieval structure and atmosphere of the village give you a unique feeling of being in a historic place in time-gone-by. A place of natural beauty surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and forest-covered mountains, Casperia is a hilltop village where you can watch the changing scenery from every angle. The night sky is a star-covered phenomenon not to be missed!
There are an array of activities to pick from. A few of those include hot springs, horse back riding, cooking classes, day trips to Rome, wine tasting, watercolor painting, salsa dancing, olive picking, Italian classes, creative writing classes. Trips with a private driver to historic sites such as Saint Francis' hermitage, Orvieto, Assisi and to thermal baths and other nature sites can be organised. Prices range from €60 to €100 per person, depending on the destination and the number of people travelling. Guests can also reach these towns by public transport: Bus and train times will given when you arrive. Our location makes it easy to travel to Rome and back by public transport for an exciting day at the shops and monuments... amongst them, the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, St Peter's - the spiritual heart of Rome - and the Vatican Museums.
Alana’s love for yoga came from firsthand experience with just how powerful the practice is. “In 2009, Yoga found me. Inside the studio, she experienced a deep sense of belonging, but the most profound part was what happened after. “I felt as though I was at true peace. I finally knew what the word meant. Until that moment, I had just understood it cerebrally. There is something profound to be said about Peace dropping into the heart.”
With a background in ballet starting at the age of 2 that continued through age 15, Alana realized that she had been doing yoga even then. “The girls in the dance studio and I used to see who could hold full lotus the longest when I was just 4. I realize now that I have been training to practice and teach yoga my whole life”
In 2012, her journey took her to India for 3 months where she trained with incredible locals near the Himalayas and fell into a rhythm of practice that felt sustaining. She knew that when she returned from the East, she would begin in creating a life as a teacher of yoga to help others journey to find whole health and well-being in the mind, body, and soul. She has been teaching ever since all over the world and is currently in Costa Rica to spread the light of yoga there.
CYT and E-RYT certified in Vinyasa with a focus in Ashtanga Yoga and her personal studies of energy work, yoga theory, and style ranging from restorative to power and everything in between. With over 1,000 hours of teaching experience, Alana teaches all levels and all ages. “I want to reach you at the level of your needs, and I try to communicate with you on a mind, body, soul level to find out what that is. We co-create a beautiful practice together. My students are my best teachers. In that light, we are co-teaching each other in every moment. It is really a beautiful experience.”
“I had the pleasure of enjoying Alana’s yoga classes during a two weeks retreat at Star Lodge Mountain, Santa Theresa, Costa Rica. Having had to wait for my main holidays in 2014 until November, I was quite worn out when I came to Costa Rica. Three days after my arrival I had the first class with Alana in the morning, and what can I say, I loved here immediately. She has such an open and heartily personality, I just felt welcomed. Being a yogini for only ¾ of a year at that time I knew that there is still quite a lot to learn and I took it in eagerly. Alana has a great style of teaching. Whether we did Ashtanga, Kundalini or Yin yoga, she adjusted class to the daily needs, it was plain perfect. I broadened my knowledge and yet became even more tuned into myself and more accepting of my different limits every day. Alana showed me that I can work up to arm balances I was sure I didn’t have the strength to do yet. This whole experience in the jungle of Costa Rica gave a further boost to keep going with my transformation, both in body and mind. And yes, I will have a closer look into getting a Kundalini teacher training . Until then, I simply enjoy each and every time of doing yoga, and hopefully one day again with Alana. Take care & Sat Nam, Alana!”

““The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.” ~ Joseph Campbell
Explorations of self 2015 with Alana Roach completely changed my life. I had never traveled internationally before and there was so much fear surrounding going on this trip. With some loving compassion kindness and grace Alana helped me to make the choice to take the trip that would forever change my life. As soon as I signed up for the trip things started to shift for me and the universe completely supported what I was supposed to do. It was an amazing process to watch unfold and then to actually be there was mind blowing. While I was on this trip my higher self completely expanded and I stepped into the person that I am meant to be. I met some beautiful people form amazing connections and will forever be grateful for this experience. Thank you so much to Alana Roach and True Nature Education. My hope for all is that everybody gets to take a trip like this that will enable them to go within themselves that will transform and change them for the better. Namaste.”
