Synergy Posture, Movement and Breathing for Fitness, Energy, Health and Longevity
In this workshop, Simon Borg-Olivier, a research scientist and physiotherapist who has taught posture, movement and breathing for 35 years, shows ways to energize, nourish and strengthen your body while developing blissful, grounded calmness. In this safe, accessible and effective practice Simon will show you how to move actively and fluidly from your core while initially allowing your body breathe for you, and later developing breath-control. You will be shown special types of core stabilization for the whole body that can strengthen and nourish your joints and muscles, prevent and heal injuries, and relieve physical pain. This practice allows you develop fitness and internal health by using spinal movements and graded diaphragmatic breathing into an abdomen firmed through posture. Techniques taught in this workshop also help improve the digestion of food, absorption of nutrients, elimination of waste and stored toxins, and the health of the reproductive system.
This practice can:
• improve flexibility without feeling intense stretch
• improve strength without feeling tense or stressed
• become more relaxed without needing to be completely passive
• improve your energy levels without having to breathe more than normal
• promote circulation without needing to make your heart beat faster
• improve the intelligence of your body cells without having to over-think
• satiate your appetite and feel nourished without having to eat as much
• feel rested and rejuvenated without having had to sleep as much

Explanation of the workshop:
During this workshop Simon will show you how to work systematically with your practice by teaching four fundamental principles of traditional yoga that are in line with modern concepts of strength and conditioning, and the science of exercise-based physiology and physiotherapy. These principles can help you develop a yoga practice that will enhance your health and well-being on a physical, energetic and emotional level.
Each of the five 4 hour long sessions in this course includes 1-2 hours of detailed instruction on posture, movement and breathing by physiotherapist and yoga teacher Simon Borg-Olivier, followed by a flowing and meditative visually-instructed led practice to music (no verbal instructions). You will develop a practical understanding of how to use yoga to maintain and enhance health and longevity, as well as to help you recover more rapidly from musculoskeletal problems and medical conditions. This course can help you be a better teacher for yourself if you practice yoga, and can also help you teach other people.
Please note that the classes are progressive. Each session builds on the information and practice of the previous session. These workshops work best if you can attend all 5 sessions. However, if you cannot attend all sessions then at least please do not attend Session 5 unless you have attended at least 2 of the other sessions.

We will be joined June 19-23 by guest chef, author and plant enthusiastic Ky Keenan sharing vegan lunches alongside her Eat Yourself Alive Workshop series. Registration for this special offering is included.

Day 1- Plant Based Nutrition and Ayurvedic Fundamentals
Day 2- Fermented Foods: kraut and plant based yogurt
Day 3- Raw chocolate and other superfoods
Day 4- How to make your own plant medicine with local herbalism
Day 5- Plant based cheese- replacing dairy

Venue HighlightsMaha Vidya is located in the beautiful and quaint town of South Berwick, Maine. Located on 3 mile of historic farmland the center is 10 miles from the ocean and an hour from Boston Logan Airport sharing a serene expression of Maine's beauty and history. The farmhouse location is along the Great Works River and a short walk to wooded trails.
A private living space is offered to guests which will either be private or shared during the stay depending on program outline.

Carlie and Zaplin are incredible teachers. They have helped me heal in body and mind through yoga and ayurveda. I came into a teacher training wanting to get better at yoga, and left a completely different person. Through all the teaching and training, I gained a way to care and treat myself. I've worked with Carlisle and Zaplin across various retreats for Yoga/Ayurveda as well as for Panchakarma. The style in which they share their cumulative knowledge has been inspiring and transformative for me on so many levels. I have always had an interest in Yoga (asana) and Meditation but it took studying with them for me to truly understand the purpose of practicing. Something was missing for me when it came to Yoga, until I met them. Because of their teachings, I understand Yoga as a way of life, and in my experience, there are no two better guides in the process. They have studied for years and years and continue to. They live and breathe their practice. Their extensive knowledge and understanding allows them to help students find balance and health through Ayurveda, which is much needed in truly practicing Yoga. They are able to meet each student where they're at to help them prepare to practice Yoga from the ground up. They help students find their own practice and work with them so that it's sustainable, personal and safe. Carlisle and Zaplin deeply honor the traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda and it comes through in everything they do. Their teachings are authentic, traditional and effective. Whether studying Yoga and Ayurveda or undergoing Panchakarma, working with them requires discipline, dedication and hard work. And for me, it's been life changing.

I've done three Pancha Karma processes with Carlie and Zaplin over the past year and have found each to be uniquely transformative. Collectively, the experience of each Pancha Karma has helped to dramatically shape me as a person. I have cultivated deepened awareness, positivity and a new sense of being through the Pancha Karma processes that has illuminated my life. And have let go of elements in my life that were no longer serving me. Personal growth has accelerated as a result. While each Pancha Karma experience is different, a consistent is the careful guidance of Carlie and Zaplin. They are attentive, deeply knowledgable and insightful throughout the process, and care about my experience and wellbeing conscientiously. They strike the ideal balance of making sure I am secure in the details of the process while also allowing my experience to unfold individually.
