Synergy Posture, Movement and Breathing for Fitness, Energy, Health and Longevity

    

In this workshop, Simon Borg-Olivier, a research scientist and physiotherapist who has taught posture, movement and breathing for 35 years, shows ways to energize, nourish and strengthen your body while developing blissful, grounded calmness. In this safe, accessible and effective practice Simon will show you how to move actively and fluidly from your core while initially allowing your body breathe for you, and later developing breath-control. You will be shown special types of core stabilization for the whole body that can strengthen and nourish your joints and muscles, prevent and heal injuries, and relieve physical pain. This practice allows you develop fitness and internal health by using spinal movements and graded diaphragmatic breathing into an abdomen firmed through posture. Techniques taught in this workshop also help improve the digestion of food, absorption of nutrients, elimination of waste and stored toxins, and the health of the reproductive system.

This practice can:

• improve flexibility without feeling intense stretch

• improve strength without feeling tense or stressed

• become more relaxed without needing to be completely passive

• improve your energy levels without having to breathe more than normal

• promote circulation without needing to make your heart beat faster

• improve the intelligence of your body cells without having to over-think

• satiate your appetite and feel nourished without having to eat as much

• feel rested and rejuvenated without having had to sleep as much

Explanation of the workshop:

During this workshop Simon will show you how to work systematically with your practice by teaching four fundamental principles of traditional yoga that are in line with modern concepts of strength and conditioning, and the science of exercise-based physiology and physiotherapy. These principles can help you develop a yoga practice that will enhance your health and well-being on a physical, energetic and emotional level.

Each of the five 4 hour long sessions in this course includes 1-2 hours of detailed instruction on posture, movement and breathing by physiotherapist and yoga teacher Simon Borg-Olivier, followed by a flowing and meditative visually-instructed led practice to music (no verbal instructions). You will develop a practical understanding of how to use yoga to maintain and enhance health and longevity, as well as to help you recover more rapidly from musculoskeletal problems and medical conditions. This course can help you be a better teacher for yourself if you practice yoga, and can also help you teach other people.

Please note that the classes are progressive. Each session builds on the information and practice of the previous session. These workshops work best if you can attend all 5 sessions. However, if you cannot attend all sessions then at least please do not attend Session 5 unless you have attended at least 2 of the other sessions.

Systematically Developing Your Yoga Practice

We will be joined June 19-23 by guest chef, author and plant enthusiastic Ky Keenan sharing vegan lunches alongside her Eat Yourself Alive Workshop series. Registration for this special offering is included.

Day 3- Raw chocolate and other superfoods

Day 4- How to make your own plant medicine with local herbalism

Venue Highlights

Maha Vidya is located in the beautiful and quaint town of South Berwick, Maine. Located on 3 mile of historic farmland the center is 10 miles from the ocean and an hour from Boston Logan Airport sharing a serene expression of Maine's beauty and history. The farmhouse location is along the Great Works River and a short walk to wooded trails.

A private living space is offered to guests which will either be private or shared during the stay depending on program outline.

Accommodations

Private and Shared rooms are available at our farmhouse location. Private and shared bathrooms are available. Guest quarters include private entrance and entry as well as a guest living room for private space and rest.
Linens and Towels are provided. Laundry service is available for an additional fee for personal items.

Directions

Located in South Berwick, Maine we recommend flights to Boston Logan International Airport or Manchester NH Airport. Shuttle buses to Dover NH are available upon arrival.
Our staff will schedule pickup from Dover, NH for $25 per shuttle.
