The Long Dance ceremony is brought to us by Beautiful Painted Arrow (Joseph Rael) Native American Medicine man, Visionary, Mystic and author from the Souther Ute and Picuri Pueblo Native Nations. The San Pedro Long Dance Ceremony is a variation created by Miguel A. Kavlin, Bolivian Shaman and apprentice to Beautiful Painted Arrow, who named him the caretaker and chief of the Bolivian Sun-moon Dance and S.P. Long Dance which has been danced for eighteen years now. Presently it is carried by only authorized Sacha Runa Shamans, who have received the Blessing, Empowerement of Spirit and the Authorization of the Lineage Holder,to perform it with true love, surrender and devotion, in Honor, Truth and Beauty.
Before the dance all dancers paint a banner where they materialize their intention for the dance: What it is they want to leave behind in their lives, what they want to call into their lives and what their wishes are for others and the world at large. Prayer ties of tobacco are made with strong intention and hung around the dance arbor along with the prayer banners, as offerings to the six directions, so that the dance will be wreathed in prayer. After the dance these tobacco ties are placed in the central ceremonial fire as an offering to the Great Mystery, releasing the prayers of the dance to the world.
Traditionally we dance all night around a fire within a circlular enclosure; half the night in one direction (clockwise) , the other in the opposite direction (counter-clockwise), working the spirals of energy to first go deep within where matter implodes and we are purified of that which we wish to leave behind in our lives, and then when we change to the upward spiral, we send forth prayers and blessings to the universe and also receive them, as our wishes for the future are potentiated and realized through the energy we set in motion through our dance steps.
The earth we take out from the fire pit in the middle is placed in front of the entrance on the eastern side of the circle enclosure, and becomes the earth altar, where we place offerings, flowers, cornmeal and candles, and where dancers can go pray anytime during the dance.
We dance from sun down to sunrise mostly without stopping. Dancers many times will enter into deep healing processes and may feel the need to rest but are asked to continue dancing if not for them selves for all sentient beings. Dancers often spend time in reflection and prayer at the fire and at the Earth alter giving offerings in deep communion with spirit. Each dancer is welcome to play instruments or sing while they move around the fire in one or another direction.
Before the San Pedro Long Dance Ceremony we prepare a burnt-offering ceremony in the Andean tradition, to propitiate the Great Spirit, the Grandfathers and Grandmothers of the four directions, All Enlightened Beings, The Mountain Guardians (Achachilas), Spirits of Sacred Places (Huacas), Ancestors (awichas), Mother earth and local guardians in order to obtain their permission and help in conducting the dance.
Around the fire we place a six pointed star, and in each point of the star we place offerings of food, flowers and spirits for the beings in each of the six worlds: the world of the Gods, demi-Gods, Humans, animals, hungry ghosts and demons, that they too may derive benefit from our efforts, and their suffering be eased. That is, we dance and work through our obstacles, obscurations and confusions in order to benefit ourselves and all of being ness.
In the center is the fire where all is one and all pollution and contamination is consumed and transformed, and wherefrom blessings ensue to guide us towards the integration of our manifold dislocated and uncoordinated energies into the one heart. When they want or need dancers kneel in front of the fire to pray and offer cedar or cornmeal or coca leaves.
In the San Pedro Long Dance Ceremony participants in the dance consume an amount of the sacred cactus Achuma and enter the healing and cleansing process which it brings along. An incredible amount of work is done in one night, where with every step we set energy in motion and are able to transcend obstacles carried within, sometimes for entire lifetimes.
Some of the participants enter into past life experiences in order to free themselves from their negative charge in the present. One dramatic example is of two women, who during one dance both entered into a state of great suffering and wailing, breathing very fast. This lasted for a long time until they where able to relax and rest in peace. As they told us afterwards, they where seeing a life where they where both burnt unjustly at the stake, accused of witchcraft. Subsequently they entered a state where they saw themselves dying and giving birth simultaneously. It was a rebirthing experience that freed them from the past and allowed them a free start in this life. Another woman completely lost her sense of self into a seeming chaos, only to find herself back in full consciousness, only this time in onneness with the Great Spirit, feeling the perfection of it all and herself in harmony with all of creation.
No matter how intense the process during the ceremony is, by the time we come around to finishing the ceremony, everybody is safely brought back to themselves, only free of some of their burdens, full of insight and blessings, and ready to enter back into their lives with renewed energy, vision and insight.
To help in this work the shaman blesses each dancer with the sacred smoke at key places in their bodies, helping to expell anr remaining negativities attached to the dancers, blessings the energy pathways of the body, and closing the chakras so that dancers can safely reenter the world.
We finally close with a burnt offering ceremony giving thanks to all the beings who participated with us in the dance and helped us to send out and bring in the blessings so that all of beingness may be blessed by the efforts of the participants and our lives be beautiful and honorable from here on!
After the dance a sweat lodge ceremony is often times honored making sure that all who have come to the dance are clean, purified, and newly born into their transformed selves. After the sweat a feast is had in celebration and nurturance of the newly formed dancers, strengthening body and community for the work that is to come integrating the power of the dance in to each others lives until next years dance. Dancers are blessed and carry their blessings out into the world.

Late last month I attended a long dance healing ceremony with San Pedro near La Paz led by Tupak Wayra Runa who works with Casa Ajayu. I am forever grateful to Wayra for leading with the right balance of care and confidence that we would all get through the ceremony and learn from the experience. His love and passion for the Aymara healing knowledge really shows and the ceremony was as authentic as I hoped. I only wish I would have been able to take part in the larger program! Being a musician, I can also say the role the music played was important and of the highest quality. It felt like each song had it’s place and matched the energy of the circle. The experience has left a mark and I feel like it’s only the beginning of a better understanding of my roots, my journey, and the love of the universe. Infinitamente gracias, y hasta la próxima Wayra. Jallalla hermano!

I had some difficult experiences, but the result is fantastic. Wayra told me to don't let walk over me in life and after some months I can say that I succeeded. At the end of the retreat Wayra knows your problems and helps you with it. You can ask personal advice during the retreat. The ceremonies are very traditional and with lots of love! Aho

Cultural authenticity, spirituality and humbleness .. These are the words that come to my mind when I think of Wayra. This man deeply touched my heart and the heart of those who were in the Amazon, at the Solstice Long Dance and Pilgrimage to Island of the Sun. Thank you for your kindness! Amor y luz

I am so grateful to meet this beautiful young yet old woman healer. Wara possesses grace and generosity of soul and sprit yet a no-nonsense respect approach to working with the elementals, the medicines, the achichillas, grandmothers and grandfathers. I look forward to learning more with and from her as our Medicine Family grows.

I was surprised at first at how young this great man is. But this is only skin deep. Below the surface lives the ancient wisdom, deep respect and humility necessary to work with the Medicines. I look forward to learning with and from mi Hermano!

Allaya! Caroline C.

This is the place that has witnessed my deepest transformations - the shedding of my heaviest veils. Its structure is ideal for staying one day, a week, or a moth (which I've done twice now, during the Shamanic Retreat of january/february 2014 & 2015). Within its limits the strangest society is formed, an ipso-facto family of deep seekers, great masters, yogic enthusiasts, lecturers, retreat groups, tourists keen on the beautiful surrounding landscape and passers-by that maybe come with their families for a mid-day culinary moment. However, each group has their special place, and Allkamari's design knows how importantly space and motive are intertwined. The Kiva - a north-american native temple, built on the blessing of Beautiful Painted Arrow - is the place where ceremonies are confined, leaving both the healing and the enjoying (although sometimes they may collide within ceremonies!) their ground of being. Its resort infrastructure is well above most hotels in La Paz, leaving not only tourists, but tired pilgrims of the plants also, deeply thankful of its services. The crew working for your full satisfaction is quite friendly, having built on Allkamari not only a career, but a kind of family. From the cooks to the shamans, everyone has your well-being at heart, so that the food is also healthy and natural, flowing effortlessly in the energy stream that Allkamari musters to call its own, possibly being the perfect prism for the soul of the Valle de las Ánimas.

My first Ayahuasca ceremony was with this woman, and I will forever be thankful for the care and passion with which she welcomed me to the world of her ancestors. I have further enjoyed her company at various other rituals of spiritual empowering: ayahuasca ceremonies, san pedro (wachuma) ceremonies, the Southern Sun-Moon Dance and the Puma-Katari pilgrimage at the Sun Island of the Titicaca Lake. From the mountains to the jungle she has always preserved the most re-assuring and beautiful smile, and her innate and selfless compassion is something that is not supported by study of divine scriptures but through her own experience and knowledge of the heart of the earth. Once, at the Wizard Mountain Jungle Retreat, during an Ayahuasca experience, I walked out of the temple in an attempt to go and watch the full moon. She followed me and stood by the path returning to the temple, waiting for me. I thought she had something to say to me, but when I caught with her she just smiled and said "just be careful with the ants... they are building a new road, see?". She is genuinely inspired by life, life of any sort, and, though her healing knowledge is circumscribed to the aid of her fellow men and women, her devotion knows no race, nor species. Her Ayahusaca ceremonies are some of the most beautiful I have experienced, her singing is sublime, and her counsels after the experience have always been spot-on insights into my own self.

Both at the Kiva Temple in Allkamari and at the Jungle Retreat in Wizard Mountain I have been fortunate enough to spend some time getting acquainted with this great Aymara Priest. He is truly a master of ceremonies, and a living landstone for his people's knowledge and traditions. I am deeply grateful for his leading role in Ayahuasca and San Pedro Ceremonies, and I have also been under his direction in the Sun-Moon Dance and the Puma-Katari Pilgrimage in the Sun Island of the Titicaca Lake. I have developed an intense love and devotion for this particular shaman - his broad smile foreshadows his utmost care while running his ceremonies, and reveals a heart keen in healing a world that has much need of the ways of his people. I have no criticism nor could I have any while speaking of one of my masters - of the dozen of ceremonies in which we've been together there has never appeared something with which he could not deal, speaking of his deep training and his true understanding of the psychic forces acting within altered states of collectice consciousness. I recommend his guidance for any seeker hoping to enjoy the light of the plant teachers; I cannot say the same for the Sun-Moon Dance and the Puma-Katari pilgrimage, because he's actually the only Bolivian Shaman that can guide you!

One of the deepest conections I've ever had with myself, I left the ceremony with a new point of view of life and all the answers I need to move on with my life after a long period of spiritual emptyness. I think God has a lot of ways to talk to us and one of these is the natural medicine and the nature forces. Wara guided me throught the hardest conection I experienced and also helped me getting my soul back, she is pure light!!
