About the Experience 

Join us for an incredibly inspiring weekend retreat designed for adventurous minds. Explore the fascinating history of fermented foods, learn how to cook healthy vegetarian dishes and get your hands into the basics of home fermenting all whilst experiencing our unique bountiful small scale organic farm. The CO Project is a fun and energizing place to active your neurons and engage with contemporary sustainable living. We call it a brain spa for creative optimists. 

Our sustainable lifestyle focused fermentation and food exploration retreats are the perfect way to get out of the city, learn new skills and try your hand at different methods of organic farming and vegetarian food preparation. You’ll be immersed in nature, meet a great group of like minded people and get to hang out with our delightful animals. Expand your perspective of contemporary sustainable living with all our hands-on experiences from kombucha making, to zero waste cooking and living. 

We have four lovely private rooms in our 100 year old guesthouse that you can stay in during your retreat on our beautiful farm. Your weekend retreat includes: 

Friday: Arrive anytime between lunch and evening time, be welcomed with a farm tour and refreshing homemade Kombucha. Settle into your room and relax before an evening aperitif on the sun-filled terrace overlooking the property. Join in the farm foraging for fresh produce that we will use to all cook a delightful meal in our outdoor kitchen and woodfired oven. Drink delicious local wines and take in the fresh country air. 

Saturday: Take a farm tour with our organic agricultural manager to discover all of the different modes of small-scale organic farming from food forests to raised beds and companion planting. We’re experimenting with lots of different ways of producing healthy food in small spaces so you can learn and apply at home. Our animal family will be waiting at the gates for cuddles, so we’ll introduce you to our sheep, goats, donkey’s, ducks and chickens. 

Our workshop will start with and introduction to fermentation (part 1) where we explore the history and application of farming with microbes. Then we pack a picnic lunch and go down to the local river beach for a relaxing lunch and swim. Back at the farm we continue with our fermentation workshop (part 2) and bottle our fermented delights and pack our take-home goodies. We’d like to spend our evening with pasta or pizza-making experiences and have some fireside chats to wrap up a fantastic day 2. 

Sunday: Wake up late to a delightful farm brunch, take a walk and soak up the beautiful cork forest surrounding the farm. Our last workshop experience is focused on practical and easy applicable sustainable lifestyle swaps from zero waste cooking to making your own soaps/toothpastes/deodorants etc. The group picks the focus and our team delivers a hands on workshop where you take home what you make! 

You can chill out in the hammocks, read a book from our extensive library, swim in our natural pool, write in our workroom, relax, think, play, and enjoy. There is just so much to get out of 3 days spent in nature!

Our three day program starts Friday after lunch and extends until Sunday afternoon, with the option of extending your stay into the week (based on availability).Our retreats are conducted in English and facilitated by our incredible on farm team. The cost of your CO Project experience is fully inclusive of the 23% Portuguese sales tax (i.e. IVA, aka VAT) so there are no further costs to pay upon arrival.
