About This Event

Join me in sunny Seville for a five day yoga immersion (and lots of tapas).

This retreat is a little different from the traditional structure and will suit those of you who are interested in immersing yourself in your yoga and learning new skills, tips and tricks to improve your practice. You'll enjoy four 2.5 hour workshops designed to deepen your physical practice, plus SUP, Aerial and Acro yoga sessions.

From the 5 - 10 September we’ll be heading to beautiful Seville, nicknamed the sunshine capital of Spain. It goes without saying that there will be lots of yoga, but we’ll also enjoy good conversation, getting ‘wanderlost’ in the cute cobbled streets, and of course the occasional sangria and chocolate churro (purely for cultural reasons, of course).

During your free time you’ll be able to explore the prettiest city in Europe, or venture further afield. If you’re after something more relaxing, there’s nothing stopping you from sneaking away with a good book, or finding a shaded spot by the river to switch off and watch the world go by.

On a traditional yoga retreat you’d usually get one energising morning class and one relaxing evening class each day. This retreat, however, has been designed with a more intensive approach to your yoga practice. It’s less of a peaceful holiday with a couple of classes, and more of a yoga immersion with enough time to still explore, relax and treat yourself like you normally would on holiday.

The focus will be on developing and improving your yoga practice through four 2.5 hour workshops. I’ve also organised a SUP yoga session on the river, an aerial yoga class at a local studio, and some playtime in the park experimenting with acro/partner yoga positions. I’m certain all of these will guarantee a few giggles (laughter is the best medicine, right?) as well as offering you a new challenge and an introduction to some different styles of yoga.

The workshops will take place in a local studio. Mats and props are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own mat or a mat towel if you prefer.

For those of you who haven’t met me before (hello), you can read a bit about my teaching style below. You can also read my student testimonials on my website. I’m biased, but I think I’m a great person to retreat with and I’m confident I can teach you a lot about your yoga.

- Roll Yourself to Relaxation: a Yin and Myofascial Release workshop.

This workshop will be a juicy combination of deep Yin postures and self massage techniques using Yoga Tune-Up myofascial balls (you’ll also get a pair to keep for yourself worth 30.-). It’s designed to work on the health of your connective tissue (fascia) by breaking up knots and adhesions that often cause the body to become tense, stiff or sore. This approach can be best described as an addictive pleasure pain - it feels ‘oh so bad’ and yet ‘oh so goooood’ at the same time. Think of a deep tissue sports massage and an intense stretching session. Here’s a blog I wrote about myofascial release if you need some more info.

- ‘Check yo-self before you wreck yo-self’: an alignment based masterclass.

Those of you who know me, know that I love alignment. Knowing how to safely practice postures and how to protect your body is paramount. In this workshop we’ll be focussing specifically on the knees, hips, shoulders and spine by breaking down some of the most common asanas and going through some basic sequences in detail.

- Finding balance:

This workshop will focus on different types of balances, standing, seated, and arm balances (including handstand for those of you wanting a challenge). We’ll explore several techniques to control the wobbles and help you find stability, stillness and strength in a range of postures. For many of us Adho Mukha Vrksasana (Handstand) seems like an impossible goal, but by breaking it down into manageable stages you’ll come to realise that (providing you put in the practice) it’s actually more achievable than you first thought. I can’t promise you’ll have perfected the full asana by the end of the workshop, but I’m confident you’ll have taken several steps in the right direction, as well as securing the skills and techniques to continue your upside down journey in your personal practice. And if all that fails, I promise it will at least be fun to try!

- Transitions: an extended Vinyasa flow practice.

We always focus on the end result, but in this workshop we’ll be looking at the process of arriving there. Rather than allowing habit (or ease) to dictate our movements, we’ll look at how to gracefully transition between postures so your flow is more flowing. In this session, the space between postures starts to take on an importance of its own and you’ll use creativity (as well as your muscles) to explore some new shapes, sequences and slower movements rather than relying on momentum.

Jess is fabulous! Her teaching style is so genuine and fun. She really knows what she is talking about and I've learned so much from her!

Venue Highlights

Seville is a city famous for its flamenco dancing, gorgeous Gothic architecture, and mouth-watering churros. Home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites and bursting with charm, you’ll enjoy getting lost in the narrow cobbled streets surrounding lively plazas. The streets are dotted with sweet smelling orange trees providing some much needed shade from the 300-days-a-year of Spanish sun. Seville is known to be an enchanting city full of secret siesta spots and incredible architecture. The city is covered in colourful ceramic tiles, providing the perfect photo backdrop, and making Seville one of the prettiest cities to visit.

We will be staying in a beautifully decorated Sevillan town-house located in the historic city centre. It’s walking distance from all the main sights and perfectly placed for you to make the most of your free time.

Earlier this year, the house was fully refurbished and modernised, while still retaining aspects of the original architecture: wooden beams, painted ceilings, exposed brick walls, handcrafted doors and moroccan floor tiles. The interiors are designed with particular attention to detail, providing a comfortable and relaxing home away from home.

The house has five bedrooms, three of which are ensuite, while the other two share a bathroom between them. There’s a kitchen, dining area and living room as well as two outside spaces to watch the sunset, with wonderful views over the city.

While you’re encouraged to switch off from social media, the house has WiFi so you can still share your snaps on Instagram and Google the best tapas bars. There’s also air conditioning to keep cool after a day basking in the heat.

Accommodation options:

1 x Double room with ensuite
1 x Twin room with ensuite (can also be a double)
1 x Twin room with a shared bathroom

Unfortunately it’s not ‘good’ for you to survive solely off churros, so we’ll aim to be healthier during our retreat days.

A tasty continental style breakfast is included every morning to set you up for the day. Fresh fruit juice, tea and coffee are included.

On the first evening, we’ll enjoy a group dinner at a local restaurant. I don’t mind at all what you eat in your own time, but when we dine as a group we’ll be aiming for a more plant based diet and will only be eating vegetarian/vegan food. Likewise, out of courtesy for other guests, if you use the kitchen at home then please avoid bringing meat or fish into the house.

Whilst there is a fully equipped kitchen in our accommodation, it would be preferred if you can please eat out for lunch and dinner. With 10 people all cooking in a small space it might get a little crowded and messy, so in an ideal world we’ll be able to keep the kitchen for small snacks and nibbles only. Eating out in Seville is super convenient and cheap. You’ll be able to grab lunch-to-go for approx €5 and dinner and a drink for under €15 ish.

Nearest airport: Seville, Spain.

The accommodation is located in the historic city centre and is easily reachable with public transport directly from the airport or main train station.
