Whittling for All Ages

About This Event

Ages: 8 - 108

Monday - Friday, 9 am - noon.

Included in Spring Break package or $120 for locals and participants staying off-site

Whittling is for anyone who is interested and coordinated enough to walk and think at the same time.

The basic course involves learning to make the required cuts in the wood with a knife. Then children make some simple toys (boomerang, flying propeller, whistle, etc.) Adults usually work on making a simple human face. Sharpening is next since it is impossible to do good work without a sharp tool. To finish the course, students make a functional walking stick, sometimes decorated with a simple human face.

Once bitten by the "bug" new carvers will want to learn more and Rick will help them develop in the direction they choose. Participants will be introduced to tools other than the knife such as carving chisels, usually called gouges, which make the process more efficient and allow the carver to attempt much larger projects.

All materials are supplied and at the end of the week, you will take home a number of unique pieces you have created.

      Family Reunion 2018.

Our family from far and wide, had a reunion the second week of July 2018 at the Naramata Centre at Naramata BC with some of us camping and the rest of us in the motel style accommodations. We all had a great experience and a good time in an ideal setting! The staff and the accommodations were great! We plan to go back again.

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
