Basic Buddhism: Conquering Fear

About This Event

A DHARMAKAYA CENTER RETREAT

Every day we are assaulted by fears—about our health, our nation, our planet, and most of all, ourselves and our place in world. These fears can be paralyzing—or can fuel opportunities for growth as you operate from a center of core calm. Learn how the dharma can help, in this weekend program of teachings, discussion, and guided meditations.

This is Part 3 of our four-part Basic Buddhism series; programs may be taken individually or as a group. The other programs are:

November 6-8 Basic Buddhism: Cultivate Positive Energy

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Fear generates a host of negative emotions, from anger and outrage to bitterness and jealousy. Yet, negative emotions can be also very good teachers—opportunities to notice what upsets you, to uproot it and to grow. Come explore these negative emotions we all wrestle with, including what causes them and how to master them through simple awareness.

Over the course of the weekend, through teachings, discussion and simple guided meditations we will explore the whys and hows of these emotions:

Learn the evolutionary basis and neurological effects of negative emotions

Explore ways to delve into the heart of your negative emotions

Understand how to use negative emotions to your benefit

Discover how to harness meditation and mindfulness to better manage these emotions

When not in class, relax in the Center’s beautiful and tranquil environment. Enjoy the view from the patio or a nearby hike, curl up with a book in the library or contemplate the stars while sitting by the fire pit. You are always welcome to join the regularly scheduled Center activities, including the Center’s Sunday study program.

Menu/Cuisine

Ancient wisdom describes food as a source of prana, or life force. The Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing was founded on the premise that nourishing food is integral to wellbeing. Our chefs are passionate about creating meals that are both flavorful and healthy. We use the freshest, most nutritious, least processed foods available; when possible our ingredients are organic and locally sourced.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in your accommodation fee. To promote good health, we serve delicious, varied, nutritious vegetarian food, with options at every meal. All our meals are served on a buffet, with ingredients listed next to each dish, enabling guests to avoid dairy, as well as glutens, nuts and other allergens.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

My inspiration is to find some very much needed solace away from the stress of raising 4 children, working (as a dietitian) and trying to get my private nutrition counseling practice launched. I am a registered yoga instructor and have practiced for over 10 yrs, and have always dreamed of taking a yoga retreat just for my own inner well being. Linda

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
