Rohatsu Zen Meditation Retreat

About This Event

This silent Zen Meditation Retreat is a celebration of Buddha's awakening and a unique opportunity to practice a traditional sesshin in a bilingual and bicultural setting. It is led in English and Spanish, with a mixture of participants from Mexico, US, and Canada, with varying levels of experience.

In addition to sitting meditation there are Dharma Talks, walking meditation, simple work, chanting and rest period. While the practice is intensive, there is time to enjoy the beach and the beautiful natural surroundings. The retreat is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned students. It is possible to bring family members who are non-participants or part-time participants as long as they respect the silence.

Poet and writer Zoketsu Norman Fischer is a well-known Zen Buddhist priest and teacher from California. Former abbot of the oldest Zen organization in the West, the San Francisco Zen Center, he is now spiritual leader of the Everyday Zen Foundation. Norman has been leading retreats at Mar de Jade for 20 years, and his teachings are especially relevant to lives of ordinary people as they work to find peace within their families and communities. His recordings from many Dharma Talks given at Mar de Jade can be found here.

Mar de Jade is located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, in the state of Nayarit in the beach town of Chacala. The closest international airport is in Puerto Vallarta. You can view pictures of the facility at our website:(contact info blocked)

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

To bring my friend and open her world to the gift of yoga. Denise
