Sentinel Dome Sunset Stroll | August 26th

Join Balanced Rock for a stroll to the top of Sentinel Dome for a gentle yoga practice and meditation amidst breathtaking sunset views of Yosemite Valley. All levels are welcome, this is a beginner-friendly hike with slight elevation gain to reach the top of the dome.

Once at the top of the dome, we will engage in a short yoga and meditation practice guided by our Balanced Rock instructor. There will be time for pictures, journaling or personal reflection while gazing out over the Valley at sunset. All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver upon registration.

$75/person

Tuition Assistance is available for all Balanced Rock programs and we never turn anyone away due to lack of funds. Please contact us for more information.

Program Price Includes

Guided hiking and yoga instruction by local, knowledgable guides, day use access on the day of the hike to specified Yosemite locations (in accordance with Balanced Rock's Special Use Permit)

Program Price Does Not Include

Entrance fee into Yosemite National Park, transportation to and from the trailhead, personal food or supplies

Timeline

5:00pm Meet at the Sentinel Dome parking lot/trailhead as a group for brief introductions and supplies check before starting our stroll

*The times for reaching the top of the dome are flexible and in keeping with the needs and physical limitations of the group. These times may fluctuate due to the exact times of sundown.

8:00pm Return to trailhead parking lot and say goodbyes

*This timeline is tentative and subject to change as sundown times shift.

What to Bring

Backpack or daypack with the following items:

Plenty of water

Snacks and food (food will not be provided by Balanced Rock so plan accordingly)

Face covering (mask or bandana) -- required

Headlamp or flashlight (there may be the chance of hiking back in near darkness)

Proper clothing and layers (while the summer days are hot, the temperature drops quickly when the sun goes down at high altitude. We recommend bringing layers and a mid-level jacket)

Proper footwear (hiking boots, approach shoes, tennis shoes are recommended. Sandals are not recommended)

Yoga mat or blanket (optional, but recommended)

Camera for photos (optional)

Journal and pen/pencil (optional)

Hiking poles (optional)

The instructor will have a first aid kit and communications to use if needed.

Directions

Each course explores a different region of the Park. With our staff of resident Yosemite experts, we specialize in visiting less crowded, yet stunningly beautiful corners of the Park. We have decades of collective experience in exploring Yosemite National Park, and have a wide range of hidden sanctuaries, secluded lakes, outdoor granite-slab yoga “studios”, and comfortable campsites in our routes and itineraries. If you want to also see some of the more popular icons and destinations, there is ample time at the beginning and end of each course.

Once you complete your registration for a course, we will send you detailed directions and a map to the meeting place for your course. This will usually be a campground inside the park boundary on the Tioga Pass Road.

Cancellation Policy

100% deposit refund for cancellation 30+ days before event.
50% deposit refund for cancellation 15-29 days before event.
0% deposit refund for cancellation 0-14 days before event.
The remaining balance (total price minus deposit) is due upon arrival.

      EVERY Balanced Rock Retreat is AMAZING!!

    I've been on several Balanced Rock retreats and every single one was AMAZING!! The attention to detail for every participant made me feel like it was designed specifically for me. Everything from making sure my sleeping accommodations were cozy to yoga poses right for me in that moment to the Over-the-Top Excellent food! You can be assured you will be WELL taken care of and fully nourished in your body, mind and spirit!

      Yoga Jambalaya 2019

    Heather has a way of bringing the outside inside, and helping to connect people to nature right from the start of her yoga class. A wonderful way to stir a pot of something delicious! Jambalaya has always been amazing, but it keeps getting better

      100% Worth every penny!

    This trip couldn't have come at a better time in my life. I was finally able to quiet my heavily distracted and fast paced mind with the guided meditations and yoga poses taught by Jana. She meets you at your level and provides you with a variety of meditation styles to take home and practice whenever you like. Patrick prepared the best meals for the group and even snuck in a sweet dessert once in awhile. Overall, this retreat was much needed and I am very grateful to have been a part of it. The connections that were made on this trip will stay with me for a lifetime and I look forward to my next trip with them.

      Women of Color Backpacking and Yoga Retreat

    I've been backpacking and climbing for over nine years, and this was one of the most special, healing, and joyous backpacking trips I've ever been on. I really loved spending time in the mountains with women of color--sharing space to talk about our experiences, joys, and pains in the outdoors, and cultivating the healing that comes with being heard and seen (and from plunges in freezing alpine lakes). Thank you to the trip leaders, Grace and Miho, for holding such beautiful space, and to Balanced Rock for providing this magical and necessary space!

      Amazing Journey

    My yoga and backpacking retreat, couldn't have gone any better, this was a life changing experience were reconnecting to nature and spirit was the key, the instructors (Breezy and JP) are absolutely exceptional yoga instructors, they care tons about the welfare of the group, the food was super healthy and convenient, meditations were beyond my expectations, the place was fantastic and the instructors were super knowledge of our surrounding environment. ***** 5 stars Highly Recommended :)!!!!!

      Amazing and rejuvenating.

    I attended the Writing from the Heart retreat. From the moment I stepped into the campsite, I felt loved, welcomed, and safe. Our yoga practices were centering and our writing time helped me to reignite my love of writing. Heather Sullivan was an amazing leader. I am so thankful for my time in Yosemite. The peace and rest I found there are truly indescribable.
