About this Retreat
Nixiwaka Yawanawá, also known as Biraci Brasil, is an Indigenous leader from the Yawanawá people of Acre, in the Brazilian Amazon. For more than four decades, he has dedicated his life to defending Indigenous rights, protecting the rainforest, and revitalizing his people’s cultural and spiritual traditions. Together with his wife, Putanny Yawanawá, he has helped strengthen the transmission of ancestral knowledge to younger generations. His work connects Indigenous communities with international audiences, promoting respect for Indigenous cultures and a deeper understanding of humanity’s relationship with nature.
