About This Event
This program introduces a formation process in facilitation, guided by the Circle of Trust® Approach. This approach to small group work involves the creation of an intellectual, emotional, and spiritual space in which we can listen and respond to each other with encouragement and compassion.
We will explore together the many situations and contexts as leaders where we find ourselves in the role of facilitating. Our work and our life together is often supported by convening or participating in helping to lead small groups of people.
Effectively facilitating a small group involves more than just knowing a set of learned skills or competencies. It also involves deeply held practices and disciplines that reveal an even more fundamental art of being with others: a way of relating and working together that sustains productive relationships.
At the heart of this retreat lies a person-centered and humanistic approach to facilitating groups and leading group discussions. This approach posits that self-awareness, emotional intelligence, empathy, the ability to listen deeply and trust silence, and the skill of asking honest questions are all essential to any process. Together in Courage & Renewal® principles and practices, we will explore who we are as facilitators and what we do to effectively lead others.
Modeling the learning and immersing ourselves into practice, in small group, and solitary settings, leadership and life questions are explored. We will use personal stories, reflections on various experiences of leadership, and poetry and stories from diverse wisdom traditions to guide our learning.
