We work with respected and trusted Shipibo Healers who travel from the jungles of Pucallpa, their native land, to join us in these sacred mountains for a deep healing journey.
The shipibo are a beautiful tribe of approximately 35,000 people located in the basin of the amazon jungle in Peru. They live in various different villages along the Ucayali River.
The Shipibo culture and their relationship with the plants are completely interwoven. Traditional Shipibo healers spend 15-20 years dieting and apprenticing with plant medicines. Spending at times years in isolation dieting different plants. During these diets, the healers receive healing songs from the plants called “ikaros”. After many years of training they can help heal people by removing blockages and dark energies, by singing these medicine songs directly to people during an Ayahuasca ceremony.
Working alongside Ayahuasca and various other master plants, the spirits of the plants support the healers in their healing work. The pharmacopeia that exists in the jungle is an incredible resource that many shipibo healers have. These ceremonies can be a powerful catalyst for healing. The ceremonies will take place at night time in the dark. Our healer will do individual work on each person during ceremonies. It is our commitment to the people attending, that we will hold a safe and supportive space throughout the retreat inside and outside of ceremony.
The Maestro or Maesta for this retreat will be announced soon!

Carolina Dowell –
Carolina first started working with Ayahuasca in 2010. She was called to work with this medicine after the unexpected passing of her Mother and divorce from her husband. After her first ceremony she knew that she had found her teacher, and in 2011 she made her first journey to Peru to work with Shipibo healers. Her experiences were so profound that she decided to make a big life change and move to the jungle. She spent the next few years working closely with the medicine and other plant dietas. Carolina received a very deep calling from the plants to help share their wisdom and support others choosing to step onto this path. For 2 years she facilitated at the Temple of The Way of Light, where she supported and helped guide hundreds of people on their medicine journey. Carolina now lives in the Sacred Valley of Peru with her husband and beautiful daughter. After becoming a mother she felt called to share the medicine again, which led to the birthing of Tree of Light Retreats with the focus on holding a safe space for women to experience Ayahuasca in the Shipibo tradtion. A couple times thoughout the year Carolina and her husband create mixed retreats to welcome men as well.
Pete (Pedro) Gorrie -
Over the past 15 years Pedro established himself as a visionary artist, lyricist and music producer in his home country Australia. He first began working with Ayahuasca in the Shipibo tradition in 2012 and having found his greatest teachers there, remained in the Amazon jungle where he worked in a large Ayahuasca center for the following 2 years. It was there that he met his partner Carolina and experienced major transformational work through his deep connection with the medicine. In this time he witnessed and supported many others on their healing journeys and furthered his connection and understanding of this culture through “plant dieta” and the creation of music projects with the healers. Pedro is currently based in the Sacred Valley, Peru with his family and feels truly honored to co-facilitate with his beautiful partner and to share this incredible healing tradition, safely and lovingly with the world.
We met and fell in love with each other in 2012 while drinking Ayahuasca in the jungle. During a very powerful ceremony we were both shown visions of the life we would create together, and from that moment on began our beautiful love story. The medicine has been an integral part of our relationship from day one. We believe that she helped both of us to heal the things we needed to let go of so we could arrive in this sacred partnership that we share. It is beautiful to know in our hearts that we are two whole people walking side by side on our paths, and that we aren't searching for something from each other to fulfill something we think is missing inside of ourselves. It's just so much sweeter to share it all together! In 2014 we welcomed into this world our beautiful daughter and we all live a happy, peaceful life in the Sacred Valley of Peru. During a dieta we received a calling from the medicine to hold retreats together and share the years of experience and deep work we have both gone through with Ayahuasca and other plant dietas. We feel honored to create the space for those that feel called to join us.

We feel very blessed to have the opportunity to work with our Shipibo healers. Shipibo Ayahuasca ceremonies take place at night time in the dark. The medicine songs that are sung are called "ikaros". During ceremonies people will receive individualized work from our healer, as they sing directly to them. We believe and have witnessed in our own experiences that this level of care helps to remove blockages and allows for deep healing to take place.
This retreat will include a plant dieta along with the 5 Ayahuasca ceremonies.
Dieta is a traditional way to bring positive changes in life, expand awareness and to receive direct wisdom from other Plant Teachers in a guided and supported environment. This is how wisdom keepers of the Amazon heal illnesses and this is the way they embark on a life long journey to become healers. The ikaros (songs they sing in ceremony) are often received during their time in dieta and these songs become a living transmission of the healing energy of the plant or tree they are dieting.
During our first Ayahuasca ceremony our healer will open our diets by connecting us to the energy of the plant. We will also drink some of this plant to further the connection. Our food diet during this retreat will be very simple and will have short periods of fasting to allow ourselves to connect deeper to the energy of the dieta. We look forward to sharing this very deep connection and healing with you on this retreat.
Despacho- Haywayikuy Ceremony:
When you arrive to someone’s house, it is common to bring a gift or food as a warm notion of appreciation. This is the precise concept behind the Andean “despacho.” A despacho is a traditional offering made of sweets, seeds, cotton, coca leaves, and sacred items wrapped into a gift and served to a ceremonial fire as a notion of gratitude to Earth and Spirit. It is the vehicle by which we offer sustenance to the spiritual realms to strengthen our relations with them and empower their continued presence in our life. Within the despacho (called Haywayikuy in Quechua), the maestro and/or maestra prepare a small universe with a balance of feminine and masculine, Earth and Heaven, the elements, the stars, sacred animals, the 3 dimensions of existence, and 4 directions. In giving reverence and acknowledgment to the living nature of the world, we are offered the opportunity to put our prayers into the ceremony, and receive blessings for our life journey. These ceremonies are utilized in an endless number of ways- including happiness, work, family, projects, health, relationships, life transitions, blessings, births and almost any given situation that one could benefit from. It is amazing to witness the reciprocity we receive when we offer our gifts to the Earth for her sustenance!
Juan Gabriel Apaza Lonasco is a respected wisdom-keeper of the Q’ero Nation of Peru. Known as the last living descendants of the Inka bloodline, and the keepers of the coca wisdom, the Q’ero still follow the ancient traditions of their ancestors by paying hommage to the Mother Earth (Pachamama) and the Apus (mountain guardians) through traditional “saminchay” fire ceremonies. Juan Gabriel dedicates his life to sharing ancestral wisdom and traditional ceremony to heal at all levels. This passion has guided him to travel internationally for more than 20 years, engaging with indigenous leaders around the world. His dream is to build the Tawantinsuyo Eco-Temple in Peru to encourage indigenous coalitions at a global level.
A Coca reading is an Andean divination practice in which the coca maestro or maestra holds deep connection with the spirit of the sacred plant referred to as “Mama Coca”. During a reading, you sit one on one with the wisdom-keeper (and translator if needed) and ask questions relating to your life. By throwing the leaves onto a manta, the elder will read the leaves and offer you insight. In the Andes, these readings are often used to help make significant life decisions, insights into health and work, and directed guidance for our path. These readings will be made available during the retreat for those that wish to connect in this way.
On the morning of the 2nd we will begin with vomitivos (a Shipibo tradition to help clean and prepare the body for ceremony). There will be ceremonies on the following days: 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th. On ceremony days only breakfast and lunch will be served. There will be integration meetings to share our experiences, as well as one on one support from Carolina and Pedro. We also plan for yoga and hikes (a daily schedule will be given upon arrival).
There is a 40% non-refundable deposit to reserve your place.
