About us

Women of Color Healing Retreats is a space dedicated to assisting black women in healing. It is located outside of the United States so that black women from everywhere can connect with nature, as nature is our original home. WCHR has created a space to get back to her. WCHR is also a space to unwind and disconnect from the psychological trauma of systemic racism.  In a world that teaches us not to take care of ourselves, it is revolutionary and healing when we do.

From daily de-colonized yoga and meditation classes. to surf or swim lessons. to snorkeling the majestic seaside, to beautiful group time on the beautiful beaches of Costa Rica. WCHR also engages our guests in the adventure side of life. We provide the opportunity to go hiking and exploring throughout San Juanillo. Our ultimate goal is to open the mind and heart, so WCHR provides workshops on colorism, self-love/self-care, healing circles and much more.

Our teachings will move you from the root to the crown by focusing on food, yoga, meditation, to open and nourish each of the body's sacred centers. If you are not familiar with the importance of the chakras and elements, then this is the perfect opportunity for you to learn. The retreat will be lead by a guide and healer who will hold conversations and space for the group to learn and grow together.

As it is important for Women of Color to practice self-care and self-love daily, our retreat is designed to teach practical and spiritual skills that can apply to your everyday life. From our decolonizing yoga classes to our women's workshops, everything that you learn at WCHR can be implemented into your everyday life. Whether it be the classroom or the boardroom, we strive to provide you with a piece of the jungle’s magic so that you may have it with you anywhere you go. - See more at: (contact info blocked)

"Each activity, workshop, exercise, etc., built upon our previous teachings truly aligned with the mission of helping women of color heal and reach our highest self. The love, sisterhood and sense of just being in a protected space for "us," is overwhelmingly essential to true breakthrough healing. I promise that this experience has forever changed my life!" Paige Fluker

You do not need to be vegan to attend the retreat! This is a space to try something new or to continue your self care journey. Some of our participants have never tried being plant-based and we love having people experience this way of healthier eating with us. 1-2 weeks prior to your arrival, we recommending experimenting with veganism, by implementing all or more plant-based meals into your every day life. We recognize that meat and dairy are the leading causes of disease within black communities so we want to encourage a plant-based lifestyle. We hold space for people in all walks on their journey to explore veganism. ”Eating plant-based helps cleanse the physical body of impurities accumulated from poor dietary habits. It also reduces stimulation to the digestive organs and liberates energy. A feeling of lightness affects the mind; this improves concentration and aids meditation. We each know that when we have eaten a heavy meal it becomes harder to concentrate. During this week you will detox from alcohol, eating dead food (processed and synthetic), eating dead animals, eating too much or too little, chemicals in food and prolonged exposure to air pollution. A period of fasting from these things facilitates the body in throwing off toxins, and frees up energy". Our plant-based meals are absolutely delicious, we also can provide raw and fruitarian selections upon request. Animal by products will not be allowed, no exceptions this includes leathers, skins,..etc.

All Casitas have private bathroom and hot-shower. we also offer dorm style accommodations with shared bathroom and showers at the main house. The rooms will be shared by 2 or 3, in individual or full sized beds.
