Making the best of a power outage
Nicaragua has very problematic infrastructure. We’ve had times where the power goes out. Some venues have a backup generator, but it might not power the air conditioning, or the outlets. So it’s really important for us to communicate with our guests about their expectations. We have to let them to know that it might rain for a day, and in that case we might not be able to go anywhere. These are things we can’t control.
Guests don’t necessarily expect these events, but those of us who live here are used to it. So it’s just a matter of awareness: we need to keep in mind that other people aren’t used to these infrastructure problems, and help them to become comfortable in the environment anyways. If the power goes out, we might just have a power-out party or go surfing for the whole day. We’ve got a good flow going on.
