Dr. Julian Norris

About us

Julian is a relentlessly curious guide and facilitator who supports people and complex systems to discover their unique potential. Holding faculty appointments at the Haskayne School of Business and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, he trains senior leaders in the government, corporate and social sectors. Originally trained as an anthropologist, his experience includes working on a street crisis team, research in the Sumatran rainforest, working as a nightclub doorman, creating a non-profit foundation, developing healing and resilience programs for at-risk youth and combat veterans, and running Outward Bound Canada’s mountain school. Julian’s work is seasoned by his love of the bardic traditions, shaped through a lifetime spent in wild landscapes, honed from a long-standing commitment to contemplative and somatic disciplines, and weathered by his life-long apprenticeship to the complex mysteries of the human psyche and the living world.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

To feed my soul so that I may return to my students with more inspiration and love to share! Jennifer
