Wu Tao was developed in 2001 by Michelle Locke a West Australian ballerina and therapist. Michelle was a ballerina with the West Australian Ballet Company where she suffered a back injury and was forced into early retirement. After leaving the company she embarked on a journey of healing and self-discovery. Looking to find some relief for her back pain, Michelle discovered Shiatsu, a Japanese form of massage. Impressed with the improvement in her back she went on to study it and later founded the Shiatsu School of WA.
In 2000, her second daughter Isabelle became seriously ill with Rett Syndrome. Michelle was devastated and managing her stress and worry became increasingly difficult. Michelle knew she wasn’t the only person experiencing the hardships of life, so armed with her extensive background in dance and Traditional Chinese Medicine, she began research into how she could use it for healing. It was here the perfect interplay of her studies and passion for dance, Shiatsu and Oriental Medicine, that Wu Tao was born.
Wu Tao classes, trainings and workshops are now held all around the world. Michelle is highly respected in both dance and natural health for her expertise, innovation and integrity.
