Lila Quintero Weaver

About The Teacher

Lila Quintero Weaver is the author of a children’s novel, My Year in the Middle (Candlewick Press, 2018). Previously, she wrote and illustrated a graphic memoir, Darkroom: A Memoir in Black & White, and co-translated its Spanish edition, Cuarto oscuro: Recuerdos en blanco y negro.

Lila was born in Argentina. She and her family immigrated to the United States in 1961. Darkroom is both an immigration story and a first-hand account of the racial tension and violence that Lila witnessed in Alabama. My Year in the Middle is a semi-autobiographical novel that builds on her youthful experience of school desegregation.
