About the Teacher

Why study with them?

Anam Thubten Rinpoche grew up in Tibet, where he began Buddhist practice as a child in the Katok tradition of the Nyingma school. He practices and teaches within the Longchen Nyingthig and Dudjom Tersar lineages. His formative teachers included Lama Tsurlo, Khenpo Chopel, and Lama Garwang.

He founded Dharmata Foundation and serves as its spiritual advisor, offering teachings throughout the United States and internationally. Drawing on Buddhist wisdom and his own experience of practice, he invites people to explore these teachings in their lives.

He writes in both Tibetan and English. His English-language books include Choosing Compassion, No Self, No Problem, Into the Haunted Ground, The Citadel of Awareness, and Voice of the Primordial Buddha.

His most recent book, Releasing the Knot of the Mind: Instructions on Resting in Stillness and Awareness, is a commentary on a doha, or song of realization, by Dudjom Lingpa. Rinpoche taught from this book at Dorje Denma Ling in summer 2026.
