Paul Stamets
About the Teacher
Why study with them?
In the 1980s, Paul began researching the medicinal properties of mushrooms, particularly their potential to fight disease and boost the immune system. He went on to develop several mushroom-based products, including Host Defense, a line of supplements made from medicinal mushrooms. Paul has been a vocal advocate for the use of fungi in ecological restoration and bioremediation. He has also conducted research on the ability of certain mushroom species to break down toxic pollutants, such as oil spills, and to restore damaged ecosystems.
In addition to his work in mycology, Paul is also an author and has written several books on the topic of mushrooms, including "Mycelium Running: How Mushrooms Can Help Save the World" and "Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms."
He has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of mycology, including the 2014 North American Mycological Association's Award for Contributions to Amateur Mycology and the 2021 Fungi Magazine Award for his work in advancing the understanding and use of fungi.
