About the Teacher
Why study with them?
Lopön Polly Ryan (Rangdröl Shemo) has been a devoted student of Tibetan Buddhism for almost four decades. She has degrees in music and psychology and has been a licensed trauma- and dharma-informed mental health therapist for over 40 years. She is also a Certified Grief Coach and Educator.
Polly has studied with Lama Tsultrim Allione in the lineage of Machig Labdrön, an 11th-century Tibetan yogini, since 1992 and serves as a Lopön (senior teacher) and Kalyanamitra (spiritual mentor) for Tara Mandala students. She is the founder of the Northern Sierra and Santa Fe Tara Mandala Sanghas. She is also the Tara Mandala Director of Teacher Development. She has studied extensively with Lama Alan Wallace and numerous other Tibetan and Bhutanese teachers. She has led and assisted many retreats in person and online, and in 2023 she co-led a Rinchen Trengwa (the oral lineage of Chöd) research pilgrimage to Druk Zangri Khamar, Bhutan. Her passion is to bring to life the stories and wisdom of the women in Buddhism. She has three grown children and a granddaughter, and lives with her partner and service dog in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
