About The Teacher

Philen is of Indian origin, born in South Africa. He began following his mother around the kitchen at the age of 9. Since then, he has studied and practiced 32 years, across over 36 countries.

Diagnosed with an 'incurable' disease in 2007, after heavy head injuries in a car accident, Philen spent 3 years (contact info blocked)) in India, much of it with Sri Mata Amritanandamayi in Kerala. During this time is when his focus shifted deeper towards ayurvedic knowledge in the healing power of spices, and how to approach food in a way that leads to Yoga (Union or Harmony with Self). Since then, Philen has reversed an 'incurable' disease by 83%.

He now resides in Malta where he teaches Indian cooking classes, shares the ancient knowledge of the ayurvedic use of healing spices, and helps ordinary people connect with the Self through the ordinary daily practice of preparing food - merging spirituality into everyday life.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

After having just completed my RYT 200 I have been inspired to further my yoga journey and my own personal journey inward. I have fallen in love with yoga and how it has changed my life and I just want to continue to explore so I can share this beautiful gift with as many as possible. Jessica
