About The Teacher

My name is Gladys and I am movement lover, a dreamer and a Pilates teacher, certified by Polestar® Pilates.

I currently teach in Barcelona, individual and group sessions, and together with my parter in crime Inês, we are setting up our dream project to organise Pilates Retreats bringing together two passions: one for the Pilates Method and the other for life in contact with nature.

A common back ache caused from sedentary office work was what raised my awareness toward the importance of taking care of one’s body. Therefore, I looked for a way to improve my posture as well as to strengthen my muscles and so I arrived to Pilates by 2006. As for meditation, I've started practicing Mindfulness meditation after my father's passing in 2013, which helped me a lot with the grieving process.

My practice has been and it still is a journey of exploration and self – discovery which continues today and that I would like to share with others. It allows me to feel better within myself and to be able to enjoy life as it is.

While Pilates is my main practice, I like learning from other physical disciplines and movement techniques which nourish my knowledge, classes and courses. Amongst others: Feldenkrais, Iyengar Yoga, Contemporary Dance, Tai – chi and Diafreo.

All These help me have my own approach to the method, a style that gives great importance to body awareness, to the limits and possibilities of each one in their own present moment. Ultimately, I strive to have my very own approach to the method, one that gives a great deal of importance to body awareness, self esteem and self care.

I am passionate about Pilates and other mindful ways and systems of movement because I consider it that it's the natural way to relate to ourselves, we are designed to move, and movement should be available and enjoyable to all of us.  What makes me really happy is to see my students progress and experience in themselves the benefits of a committed personal practice. It also makes me really happy to eat real good food... yum!

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Reconnecting with myself after a very crazy few months with a new baby! Just having that feeling of being grounded again. But also having an opportunity to connect with new amazing people. Getting exposed and Inspired by new (to me) yoga instructors (and community). Being in the presence of real, authentic and raw emotion (the whole spectrum).. So many reasons! Alyson
