Diego Hannon, Tour Guide & Indigenous Community Liaison

About The Teacher

Diego Hannon has a degree in Tourism and a master's in Local Development from the University of Guadalajara. Passionate about shamanic traditions and alternative forms of tourism, part of his thesis work included field research in the Mazatec region of Oaxaca, where he studied the social, economic and cultural impacts of tourism, identifying aspects such as the reproduction of colonial power dynamics and disruption of traditional ways of life as a result of the commodification of ritual practices. Diego has participated in multiple tourist and cultural projects that allowed him to acquire the expertise to provide any traveler with an authentically local cultural experience. His personal experience with sacred plants began in 2012 and was soon followed by a series of profound experiences with psilocybin mushrooms. This led him to investigate the delicate relationship between tourism and neo-shamanism achieving his first academic publication in 2016 under the title “Psychedelic Tourism in Mexico, a thriving trend”.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

My inspiration sparks from my innate charge to connect with a collective innate goodness. I aspire to live in a way that continuously blossoms and embraces my wise and compassionate human nature. Freundl

Retreat Guru's Vision
