About The Teacher
Sri Lanka was not spared by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and Tsunami. Kushil Gunasekera's story is built upon the response to this great "wave of destruction" that he made a blessing for so many, by his own effort and will. The village of Seenigama in the Galle District, hometown to Kushil, was devastated by this Tsunami. Kushil was instrumental in paving a pathway for life to begin again in his village. Through magnanimous effort and hard work, the Foundation of Goodness was to be the Centre of new life and productivity
The FoG today, is an internationally recognized brand and first ever holistic rural community development model Centre, that provides a platform to uplift the lives of rural communities through learning and empowerment. Today, the Foundation of Goodness serves over 28,000 beneficiaries annually across 300+ villages through the one of a kind campus style flagship model in Seenigama and 10 Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres island-wide.
Kushil has been mentor to world renowned Sri Lankan cricket legend Muthiah Muralidaran for 20 years. He is the recipient of two unique accolades: The first ever Commonwealth Point of Light Award for Sri Lanka, presented by Her Majesty the Queen, and the second, a very rare honourary lifetime membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club for his outstanding leadership in community upliftment.
Kushil continues his life's work, devoted to providing equality between rural and urban Sri Lanka. The Good Life Institute is his most recent initiative, and one which has been built on the Foundation of Goodness philosophy of good leadership, life experiences, inner beauty and the art of happiness. Through the Good Life Experience programmes, Kushil's mission is to help people unwind and secure more clarity of thought, rejuvenate, refresh and to inject positive spirit to understand the true nature of life during the good and adverse times that one encounters.
