About The Teacher

A yoga nerd at heart, Kevin brings his genuine passion for yoga to every class. His yoga journey started at Shanti Halifax in 2011, and has since had the pleasure of training with Ryan Leier (One Yoga), Manju Jois (Ashtanga), Fr. Joe Pereira (Iyengar), and has completed advanced training with Srivatsa Ramaswami (Vinyasa Krama), following the teachings from the lineage of Sri T. Krishnamacharya. Kevin holds a ERYT 200 and RCYT certification with Yoga Alliance. He shares his dynamic style of practice which is fun, inspirational, and focused on the core traditions of yoga

“Yoga has improved my relationship with all things: my self, my family, my friends, my coworkers, my community, my environment, and all beings. I am thrilled to be able to share what I have learned from my teachers and I am very grateful for all the experiences that have shaped my journey.”“I fell in love with yoga during the very first class, and knew I wanted to teach by the 3rd class! I had never felt so good in my body and mind. I knew there was something extraordinary about this practice. After seeing the results and benefits of my amateur practice, I was inspired to go deeper and practice yoga as a lifestyle and learn the philosophy of the ancient yogis. The more I learn about yoga, the deeper my love for the practice goes”“I started my RYT200 teacher training with Ryan Leier in 2013, at One Yoga Vancouver, and completed the children's yoga teacher training (RCYT) in 2014. I taught adults at local studios, and youth in grades 2-7 at several schools in the HRM for 2 years. I then got the opportunity to study with a senior Iyengar teacher, Fr. Joe Pereira, to understand more about restorative postures and how to use props for healing. A year later, I completed a intensive training with the Ashtanga master, Manju Jois, where I learned the primary series and the appropriate assists for each pose. I went on to take a advanced teacher training with Srivatsa Ramaswami in 2016, where I learned extensive asanas, vinyasas, pranayama, mudras, and the ancient text "Yoga Sutras of Patanjali". I still teach at my home studio in Halifax, Shanti, where it all began for me!"

"To peek around the corner is to miss the turn you’re taking. There is a reason why you don’t know. It’s because you don’t have to see where things are headed, in order to be, who you are becoming." Matt Kahn

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

I am an oncology nurse and a few long time patients have died recently. I need to rejuvenate and return to my breath! Elizabeth
