About the Teacher
Why study with them?
Domi is a Textile designer based in Zanzibar, Tanzania where she also runs a yoga and wellness studio. Passionate about colors and patterns, it is Domi’s second nature to play with dyes and patterns on fabrics. A committed yogi, she has also made it her goal to join mindfulness and creativity to her lifestyle as well as in her work ethic.
Originally from France, Domi trained and lived in England for 10 years working for Liberty Art Fabrics and teaching dressmaking in a workshop called Sew Over It before moving to Tanzania in 2016. There she worked as a Print designer for an organization called Neema Crafts also training deaf and disabled artisans in screen-printing. In 2020, she set up her base in Stone Town, Zanzibar where she took over an existing yoga studio and rebranded it under Uzima Space, which in Swahili means "Aliveness," or "Wholeness". At the same time, Freia and Domi created a brand of naturally dyed clothing under the same name of UziMa, realizing that it combines the word Uzi (thread in Swahili) to Ma, the Japanese concept of pausing, of time and space that we all need to feel, connect & create.
