Uma Díaz

About the Teacher

Why study with them?

Uma is a maternal educator, doula and midwife. She facilitates psilocybin and cacao ceremonies for women in Colombia.
She founded @Umay.life, a project that promotes women's and reproductive rights, and co-founded @onowa_abuelas, a project that defends the knowledge of grandmothers and facilitates psychedelic therapies.
Born into a family with a strong shamanic influence, Uma experienced ayahuasca for the first time when she was 7 years old and participated in traditional ayahuasca ceremonies every eight days until she was 25 years old.
As a woman in a male-dominated space, Uma has witnessed and experienced abuse and injustice at the hands of male leaders "who have power or control over these sacred medicines". These inequalities and abuses inspired her to pursue this project and facilitate women-only ceremonial spaces.
"The absence of women in shamanism or psychedelic therapy generated a multitude of disorders, abuses of power and inequality of knowledge," she says. "It is imperative that we recover our position and presence as women in these spaces to balance and harmonize them. Part of this process is the respectful public recognition of the rich wisdom and knowledge that women possess."
In 2021 she received the @cosmicsister Cosmic Sister Emerging Voice Award (CS EVA). This award supports individuals who demonstrate outstanding potential in the field of psychedelics and to strengthen their visibility in the community.
