About the Teacher

Why study with them?

Jill became a devotee of yoga after her first yoga class about 30 years ago. Over the years she studied with some amazing teachers and trained in several styles of yoga. She began her yoga training with Hatha yoga, followed by Radiant Light Yoga, opening her heart to mantra. She spent several months in India training with Mr. TKV Desikachar, and yoga therapy. The opportunity then came to train in Kundalini Yoga, this style of yoga became the focus of her teaching for several years. Jill has never been one to just stick to one thing as she believes being curious is important, in all aspects of our lives, for her, yoga has been no exception.

“How I teach yoga now, is from a point of balance. Coming from all I have learnt from teachers, students, and mostly over years of listening to my own inner wisdom. I practice and teach from an inner perspective, bringing awareness back into the body and feeling what is. Following the breath, breath and posture are one, you cannot do one without the other they are interchangeable. My yoga brings balance to mind, body, and spirit. I encourage movement of energy for endurance and healing, using pranayama and movement. My yoga is focused on inner awareness, opening the heart, refining the relationship to self, bringing the mind to the present, sitting in meditation connected to the loving, unchanging eternal part of Self. I often use mantra for meditations”.

Jill is also a qualified teacher with Trauma Aware Yoga Australia, and works as a nurse in Mental Health. “I was instrumental in introducing yoga to patients in the hospital, and established sessions of Trauma Aware yoga for patients with trauma, abuse and PTSD”. Her other interests include continuing her training in Shamanic healing. She is a Gong Master and practice sound healing, as well as having many years’ experience with cognitive based therapies.

Jill enjoys working individually with people and will be providing personal 1 hour sessions at the retreat, at request of guests. She works with oracle cards, as well as yoga therapy, and a touch of shamanic healing.

“I look forward to meeting you on the mat, in the spirit of Africa, the magic of yoga and the coming together of loving kindness”.
