About The Teacher

I support individuals in encountering and living their truest self—the soul—by exploration, reverence, and conversation with the Mysteries of Nature and Psyche.

I can help you embrace your sacred gifts and life purpose. Through Vision Quests, Nature and Soul Journeys, Wild Yoga, and in Personal Sessions, you can become whole and transform your relationship with wounds and trauma while opening to a larger calling.

Rooted in my lifelong love of nature and aided by my own brushes with mortality, I guide others into intimate relationship with the wild.  In connecting to Earth and your own depths, you can access the wisdom and instinct of body and heart, recognize previous denials and undiscovered aspects of self, and let go of smaller, egocentric life stories. In opening to Nature and Mystery, you will discover your unique artistry and larger mythopoetic destiny.

I'm a licensed professional counselor with more than a decade’s worth of experience. I earned my master’s degree in counseling from John’s Hopkins University in 1997 and have since worked as a wilderness therapist and/or guide for organizations which include Outward Bound, Alldredge Academy, Aspen Achievement Academy, Passages to Recovery, Open Sky Wilderness Therapy, Wilderness Reflections, and the Animas Valley Institute.

I serve as a guide for the Soulcraft and Vision Quest programs of Animas Valley Institute, where I have studied since 2002. My work is strongly influenced by Bill Plotkin’s model of human development, the Soulcentric Developmental Wheel. I’m certified in Somatic Archeology and completed Comprehensive Training in the Hakomimethod; I integrate these body-centered, experiential approaches into all facets of my work, as they increase awareness and the capacity to listen deeply within.  My personal sessions may also include Core Synchronism.

A long-time student of yoga and meditation, I created what I call Wild Yoga to help bring our human bodies into deeper states of listening to Earth’s body. I’m an RYT-500 certified yoga educator in Interdisciplinary Yoga through Nosara Yoga Institute. I have also studied yoga extensively with Darren Rhodes, Christina Sell, and Amy Ippoliti.

I am an ecstatic lover of earth’s wild divinity and a wild-hearted wanderer who aims to listen deeply to nature and live my life as a prayer.  I'm available for Personal Sessions via phone/Skype.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Reconnecting with basic goodness in an environment of people who share a vision for a better society. Wimberly

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
