About the Teacher

Why study with them?

Mark Nicolson has spent three decades working with people at the growing edges of their lives: cultural leaders, organizational founders, artists, and seekers in the moments when the old shape no longer fits and the new one hasn’t yet arrived. Educated at Oxford and Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, he brings together depth psychology, movement, and contemplative practice.

Mark also helps people prepare for and integrate experiences of expanded states, and hundreds of those conversations have deepened his conviction that real change happens in the body and the imagination before it reaches the planning mind. Designing the Life We Want grew from that conviction. Developed through his teaching at Stanford and Esalen, the workshop pairs clear-eyed reflection with ritual, movement, poetry, and an honest encounter with mortality, asking not only what we want from our lives but who we are becoming.

He lives in Santa Cruz, California, where he tends his work, his family and friendships, and a few hives of bees in a bountiful garden.
