Why study with them?
Born in Viking, Alberta in 1946, Dennis graduated from the Alberta College of Art, Calgary, Alberta, in 1968 with a major in pottery and ceramics. In 1976 Dennis made a career decision to pursue a Bachelor’s degree, followed by a Master’s degree at the University of Houston. Upon returning to Calgary, he became production manager for a major pottery manufacturing company producing hand-crafted wares sold across Canada. To honour his Welsh roots, Dennis opened his own production studio in 1986 called, Nant Mill Pottery. During the course of his lengthy working career, he implemented a major First Nations initiative creating giftware items sold across Canada, and his expertise has taken him to Africa, twice.
After four decades working in the arts, Dennis retired to Naramata, British Columbia in January 2006. Challenged by his new environment, he began orienting himself to the new visual experience found in the Okanagan, and this is reflected in his landscape painting. Using colour to portray emotion, the faces of friends, neighbors and relatives have also been transformed into works of art. Limited edition pottery items are also created in his Studio with shapes and forms chosen by the artist to reflect his moods and his new found “freedom” to create, resulting in pieces with passion.
