About the Teacher

Why study with them?

Tony McGrath, a former soldier and elite athlete who came to Canada as a new immigrant after a career as a senior executive in banking, insurance and retail in the UK and Europe.

After heading up a number of startup enterprises Tony alongside his wife and business partner, he has built a consulting practice focused on leadership mentoring and building culture based on principals of kindness, empathy and self awareness. He facilitates workshops, seminars and is a frequent speaker at conferences in North America and the UK. He has been a sought after interim CEO in challenging business situations and was most recently CEO at Calgary’s historic The GRAND Theatre as it recovered from well publicized toxic workplace issues.

He was born into an Irish Roman Catholic family deeply involved in the religious community but developed no personal concept of faith. Tony grew to regard God as a punishing figure and drifted away from his spiritual roots.

It was not until his life was devastated by alcohol did his committed spiritual path begin to take shape through the 12 steps. His journey grew out of the necessity of survival and at that low point he was introduced to the concept of true faith.

The feeling of sharing in a common life threatening problem proved to be the cement that bound his life together and he felt that he simply had to believe in some God of his understanding, a spirit of the universe, in order to survive and thrive. His daily spiritual practice is pulled from Christianity, AA, Buddhism and his Celtic roots to provide faith, trust and acceptance.

Tony raised two children as sole parent until he met and married his soulmate 16 years ago and is now a proud father, grandfather and husband.
