About us

Sally Bassett is a yogi, humanitarian, and world traveler. Sally’s enthusiasm toward life as well as her creative and spiritual approach to yoga have been keys to her success. She is the founder of Peace through Yoga studios and the Peace through Yoga Foundation. Sally completed her doctorate degree at Purdue University in tourism with the emphasis on international humanitarian work and is now an adjunct professor at Butler University, teaching yoga basics and philosophy.

Sally has always loved to travel. She counts over 140 countries that she has visited and leads yoga retreats mixed with adventure and service to Costa Rica. Sally founded Peace through Yoga Foundation to provide an English Center and Library in a rural village in Costa Rica.  The International Center for Girls (renamed in 2014) now supports 16 girls via scholarships to learn English, sewing, life skills, yoga and more.  Trips offered to Costa Rica include working with the children at the center.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Retreats inspire me to continue to practice and fuel my journey. I always find specified intention and feel it projects me closer to my purpose. Shannon

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
