Ian O’Laughlin

About The Teacher

Ian has dedicated himself to being of service to others through teaching yoga, meditation, and vision coaching. “What I want for you is to discover who you really are at the deepest level, to know your purpose, and to believe in yourself 100%. Life unfolds in the most beautiful way with every step of self-discovery.”

In 2009, at 34 years old, life took Ian out-of-commission as a result of mis-diagnosed appendicitis with severe complications. Afterwards, all the surgeons wanted to meet him, telling him how lucky he was to be alive. During his year and a half recovery Ian spent countless hours considering what is really important in life, and how to help others get that lesson.

Ian and his wife Jenny own two Bikram Yoga studios in the Detroit Metro area since 2007 and 2011 (DetroitBikram.com), and are currently discovering life anew through their 2 year old Gabriel.

Bikram Yoga Teacher Certification Spring 2002, Los Angeles. Sivananda Yoga Teacher Certification 2003. Transcendental Meditation Teacher Certification 2008 – 2009. Napoleon Hill Foundation Certified Leadership Training 2014 to present.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Reconnecting with myself after a very crazy few months with a new baby! Just having that feeling of being grounded again. But also having an opportunity to connect with new amazing people. Getting exposed and Inspired by new (to me) yoga instructors (and community). Being in the presence of real, authentic and raw emotion (the whole spectrum).. So many reasons! Alyson

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
