About The Teacher

Jax Jai is a wandering Scottish wild-woman with the soul of a dancing songbird. She’s been practicing yoga since 1998, working with sound healing since 1999, and taught her first yoga class on a beach in Goa in 2001. Since then she’s yoga’d in the Amazon jungle, on a rooftop in Rishikesh, on countless beaches around the world and even in a public bathroom. Jax has studied with Sharath Jois and Patthabi Jois, and in India, Peru, Thailand, London and Cape Town. She’s owned a yoga studio in Cape Town, trained as an ecstatic dance teacher, and taught yoga in a London nightclub, on a private island in Greece and a valley in Tuscany, at Rocking the Daisies…. and last December she led a very special solstice retreat in Bali with Low Tide Yoga. Jax teaches intuitively, with a very delicate balance of compassion and commitment – and always with a wicked sense of humour. Whether you're new to yoga or have been practising for years, Jax's classes will challenge and inspire you, and take your yoga to the next level.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

I teach yoga part time and am a mom of two toddlers full time. I love my life, but goodness do I need a break. My husband and I have been putting off our wedding ceremony for 4 years because life has gotten in the way. We haven't had a single night alone since our family has grown. I wouldn't change a thing about our lives now, but it would be so wonderful to remember what it's like to 'just be us.' Antrim

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
