Darren is a yoga trained spiritual teacher who began his path at a young age in the Catholic tradition, his first 20 years being filled with countless rosaries, retreats, and pilgrimages. His spirituality started to evolve as he was forced to release belief of Christian rhetoric in order to accept his homosexuality as beautiful and natural. Breaking from his Catholic background ignited a fire in him to relentlessly study and practice ancient and modern spiritual teachings and healing modalities which have now become the foundation of his practice and teachings. He began his yoga journey in 2003. His life changed in 2010, when he decided to take control of his life and pursue total happiness. He quit his full-time high school teaching job and travelled to the banks of the Ganges River in India where he earned his yoga teaching certification. His experience in India and his following 2 month meditation trip around Thailand solidified his path as a spiritual teacher and yoga advocate. Darren uses a toolset accumulated from old and new, Eastern and Western to continually fall in love with life and celebrate its innumerable joys even amid its traumatic obstacles. His spiritual journey has also uncovered his intuitive abilities which he employs to translate often ambiguous spiritual teachings into a very personalized step by step plan for students to find their individual paths to wholeness. He received his formal Western training in music conservatories and holds his Masters in Music and is constantly seeking new ways to incorporate the transcendental properties of music into his classes and community outreach. Before focusing on spiritual teaching, Darren worked as a high school teacher working with at-risk students in Chicago, developing for them music, dance, and yoga programs. He gained a heightened awareness of the body and mind’s resilience running the 2010 Chicago Marathon and hiking the New Jersey portion of the Appalachian Trail. Darren continues to travel the world, connecting, teaching, performing, and spreading love. He released his first solo piano album, “Ascending into Light,” in 2014 and it is available at your favorite online music store.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Because I sometimes work up to 16 hours a day, and need time to stop and breathe. Mary
