About the Teacher
Why study with them?
Being born into a family that follows the Maya path gifted me with the great blessing of understanding the Maya way of living as part of myself and as the way in which I perceive and interact with the world. I began my personal journey to become an Ajq'ij (Maya Spiritual Guide) under the guidance of Elder Alejandro Cirilo Perez Oxlaj, from whom I received my Pisom Q’aq'al (Sacred Pouch), at the age of 20.
Much of my service as an Ajq’ij has focused on supporting the preservation and transmission of the sacred knowledge of this millenary tradition, a work I have been doing for over ten years together with Saq' Be'. Through this work and through my personal path, I have had the blessing to learn directly from several Elders of various Maya lineages, as well as from my father, Carlos Barrios, with whom I worked since I was 17 years old and from whom I had the gift of learning the techniques, secrets, and wisdom of the Maya that I now share.
