Sara Moncivais

About The Teacher

Sara Moncivais has been teaching yoga in New York City, Texas, London, and most recently California since 2008. After earning her 200 hour certification she began a serious and devoted practice in Mysore Ashtanga, which led her to study for three extended trips at KPJAYI in Mysore, India with Sharath Jois. During this time she also became the main assistant for Zoe Slatoff at Ashtanga Yoga Upper West Side. Her sincere desire to take yoga into the community led her to teach for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Wellness where she helped launch a pilot program that brought yoga to communities in Harlem and the Bronx by partnering with local churches. At this time she also taught for the NYC Parks Dept and brought yoga classes to communities across Inwood and Washington Heights with free programming.

Sara additionally holds an MA in Movement Studies from The Central School of Speech and Drama in London and taught movement and physical theatre to performers in New York and London. She also worked to spread yoga through the Texas Panhandle with annual classes and workshops in her hometown. These programs have helped teachers start yoga studios, take yoga to churches in the Texas panhandle, launch yoga classes in colleges, public schools, and local hospitals. Sara now resides in California where she is cheating on yoga with surfing.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

To reconnect with my inner self, found ground through the movement of my body and breath. Awake. Jane
