Frank Panopoulos

Frank Panopoulos has worked on peace and social justice issues since 1978.  During the 1980s he was one of Pax Christi International's representatives at the United Nations and worked on staff for the Catholic Peace Fellowship.  At that time, he lived in the Corjesu Community, a lay Catholic community engaged in the works of mercy in New York City’s Upper Manhattan.  Frank has spent time in prison for acts of non-violent civil disobedience, including two Plowshares Actions (AVCO and Trident II), and continues to organize and engage in non-violent protest.  He also is a human rights attorney.  His current legal work entails continuing to represent a prisoner released from the Guantánamo Bay prison, representing people arrested at demonstrations in Washington D.C., and advising peace and justice non-profits about the potential use against them of executive orders and related laws to curtail speech and civil disobedience.  He teaches courses at Colby College (Maine) during the college’s January semester on the Guantánamo Bay Prison and most recently on the expansion of executive power in the second Trump administration.  His public speaking includes talks on Transhumanism and Artificial Intelligence, The Guantánamo prison, and Non-Violent Direct Action.
