About the Teacher
Why study with them?
John’s work is rooted in the belief that sound is not simply something we hear—it is something we feel. His signature experiences move far beyond the conventional sound bath, combining gongs, didgeridoo, handpans, Tibetan singing bowls, crystal instruments, tuned plates, flutes, shruti box, khomus, tuning forks, and other acoustic instruments to create rich, multidimensional soundscapes.
At the center of his practice are the gongs. John approaches each instrument as a living voice, exploring its enormous range of frequencies, harmonics, textures, and subtle vibrations. His sessions are intuitive and dynamic, allowing the sound to unfold organically rather than following a predetermined formula. The result is an immersive experience that can move from deeply grounding and meditative to expansive, powerful, and otherworldly.
John is also the maker of his own line of specialized gong mallets, bringing an unusual level of craftsmanship and intimacy to his work as a sonic artist. Designing and handcrafting his own mallets has allowed him to develop an exceptionally deep relationship with his instruments and to understand how even subtle changes in materials, shape, weight, and construction can dramatically alter a gong’s voice.
