Why study with them?

Antonieta Contreras is a Gestalt-trained, trauma-focused psychotherapist, faculty member, supervisor, and consultant; she boasts a diverse background, transitioning from banking and consulting, with initial education in mathematics. She blends her certification in various trauma modalities with contemplative techniques from Indian and Tibetan Buddhist traditions.

A committed volunteer, Antonieta has served several nonprofit organizations, including two Buddhist organizations. At the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapies (ICP), she has shared her expertise as a consultant, supervisor, and former co-director of the Trauma Studies Program. Over several years, she meticulously developed and taught the curriculum of their postgraduate program. She also teaches a trauma class at NYU, facilitates EMDR groups toward certification, and delivers informative talks at hospitals, agencies, conferences, and universities to raise awareness about trauma.

In her private practice in New York City, Antonieta offers a systemic approach to healing by incorporating different trauma modalities and contemplative techniques. She carries certifications as an EMDR-approved consultant and Board Certified Neurofeedback clinician among others.
Antonieta's expertise has been recognized in her award-winning book Traumatization and Its Aftermath (Routledge, 2023), honored with the 2023 Best Books Award and 2024 American Legacy Book Awards in Psychology/Mental Health. Her upcoming book, How Deep Is the Wound? (September 2025), continues her exploration of trauma and emotional wounds.
