Why study with them?
Ned Leavitt (Jambavan) has been immersed in the practice of bhakti and sacred chanting for many years. A devoted student of Jai Uttal, he toured with Wah! as harmonium player and backup vocalist, bringing heartfelt kirtan to communities across the country.
Before discovering bhakti, Ned had a memorable experience touring with rock legend guitarist Link Wray. He later enjoyed a career as a literary agent, representing influential authors including Krishna Das, whose book Chants of a Lifetime he helped bring to publication, and Clarissa Pinkola Estés, author of the beloved classic Women Who Run with the Wolves.
Ned co-created the album Bhakti Treasure with his wife, Lynn, and released his solo recording, Bhakti Quest, in 2024. Today, he leads kirtan regularly throughout the Hudson Valley, organizes local chant festivals, and is a member of Spirit Brothers Band with Joseph Jastrab and Steve Gorn.
Known for his warmth, authenticity, and deeply humble presence, Ned embodies the spirit of bhakti as both a lifelong practitioner and devoted servant of the path. Whether leading chant or sitting quietly in community, he invites others into the transformative power of sacred music, wholehearted devotion, and the joy of singing the Divine Name together.
