Raziya’s yoga journey started with a personal practice at the age of 17 and continued two years later living and travelling in India. Here she had the opportunity to learn and practice in yoga ashrams in a traditional way and at its very source.
As an experienced Massage Practitioner, trained in London and Hawaii, she began to recognise that yoga could help the various problems her massage clients were presenting. This led Raziya to begin her yoga teacher training in 2000.
The YTT course was based on the principles of Vanda Scaravelli. This method inspired her and sat comfortably with her 6 years of learning the Alexander Technique. Raziya has developed her style of teaching yoga to encompass and reflect principles from both these disciplines.
Her approach focuses on working in a gentle and intelligent way to free the spine, practising mindfully, encouraging the body and mind into asanas, developing strength and flexibility, all whilst creating an inner stillness and calm.
So now with over 40 years of yoga practice, 15 years of yoga teaching experience, a Bachelors Degree and a Post Graduate certificate in Education, Raziya uses her combined experiences to teach classes and workshops, one to one sessions and yoga retreats to suit all ages and abilities, practising asana, pranayama, meditation and Sanskrit chanting.
